History
The Atlantis Alliance was founded in the aftermath of catastrophic tectonic upheavals and climate-driven devastation in the late 21st century, during which the United States fractured into distinct regional powers. The Atlantic Alliance originated as a sovereign political and military entity comprised of the eastern states of the former United States, establishing its capital in Washington, D.C., following a global environmental collapse caused by rising sea levels. As the East embraced militarized federal control and rejected genetic experimentation, the western territories, spearheaded by visionary scientists and technocrats, seceded to form the Atlantis Alliance. In its earliest actions, the Alliance rejected the use of radical genetic modification, which had been adopted by their western rivals, and instead focused on the development of advanced cybernetics and high-tech weaponry to maintain their sovereignty. They engaged in a series of diplomatic and legislative efforts to ban human augmentation, which ultimately led to the passage of the Disclosure Act and the subsequent fracturing of the nation into two warring factions. Upon the outbreak of open hostilities, the Alliance deployed its military forces, including specialized soldiers equipped with Entrencher technology, to the midwestern conflict zones. This new polity championed advanced biotechnology, cybernetics, and human enhancement, believing that genetic evolution was the key to survival in the transformed world. Led by the enigmatic and calculating General Sheridan, the Alliance sought not merely independence, but the right to redefine humanity on its own terms. Tensions with the Eastern Seaboard's militarized Atlantic Alliance escalated into open war when federal forces declared the Alliance’s transgenic research illegal and treasonous. The Atlantis Alliance fought to defend its sovereignty and ideology, wielding gene-modified soldiers and terrain-altering weaponry to reshape the battlefield and outmaneuver their conventionally armed opponents. Though derided by enemies as unnatural, the Alliance saw itself as the inevitable future of human progress. Their initial tactical operations involved the use of terrain-deformation weaponry to reshape the battlefield, creating artificial cover and craters to counteract the biological advantages of the Pacifican forces. These actions were centered on the enforcement of federal law and the preservation of traditional human biology through the systematic neutralization of Pacifican research facilities and the defense of key strategic territories along the Mississippi River.
After the creation of the Defense of Humanity Act in 2161 as well as the events followed by the Great Flood, the Eastern parts of the United States succeeded from the government to form their own confederacy named the Atlantic Alliance. Against the use of genetic engineering, the Alliance instead preferrd the use of cybernetics and as such they came into conflict with the newly formed Republic of Pacifica.
Overview
In appearance, the Atlantis Alliance was a technologically advanced faction that emerged as a distinct geopolitical entity on the western coast of what was once the United States, primarily encompassing California and the surrounding Pacific territories. Its strongholds featured sleek, oceanic-themed architecture infused with bioluminescent lighting, curved metallic surfaces, and eco-integrated technology. Their cities, built both above and beneath sea level, projected an ethereal, almost utopian aesthetic, contrasting sharply with the utilitarian fortresses of their enemies. Military installations and laboratories floated along coastlines or were carved into cliff faces, seamlessly blending synthetic design with natural surroundings. The visual identity of the Atlantis Alliance conveyed both futurism and detachment—a society that had evolved apart from its continental kin, embracing a path of radical scientific progress and post-human ambition.
The Atlantic Alliance were a centralized, tech-driven sovereign nation that functioned as the legal and political successor to the eastern United States. The government was organized as a formal federal republic with its capital in Washington, D.C., led by a President of the United States and a structured military hierarchy. This administration operated with a high degree of formality, maintaining traditional state protocols and a rigid adherence to international law as they interpreted it. The Alliance’s goals and objectives focused on the preservation of traditional human biology and the enforcement of the Disclosure Act, which prohibited radical genetic manipulation. They sought to neutralize the Pacifican Republic’s biological advancements, viewing them as an immoral violation of human integrity. Their primary objective was the reunification of the fractured American continent under federal authority and the systematic dismantling of genetic research facilities that threatened their ideological vision. To achieve this, they deployed a highly trained military force that prioritized cybernetic enhancements and mechanical innovation, aiming to secure strategic corridors along the Mississippi River and eliminate the Pacifican threat through superior industrial and terrain-shaping technology.
The Atlantic Alliance demonstrated a specialized suite of skills and abilities centered on the mastery of cybernetics and the manipulation of geological environments through advanced weaponry. They possessed the technical proficiency to operate the Entrencher, a handheld device that allowed soldiers to instantly raise or lower the terrain to create artificial hills for high-ground advantages or trenches for defensive cover. This ability to reshape the earth was supplemented by the use of specialized grenades, such as the Tectonic Grenade, which created localized tremors and rapid soil displacement to expose subterranean threats. The Alliance also showcased advanced proficiency in long-range ballistics and electronic warfare, utilizing high-tech rifles and cybernetic implants that enhanced the accuracy, targeting, and physical reflexes of their infantry. These cybernetic enhancements provided soldiers with increased durability and the ability to interface directly with automated defense systems and heavy machinery. Furthermore, their military doctrine relied on the strategic deployment of automated drones and jump-jets, allowing for rapid vertical mobility and air superiority over the battlefield. Their technical abilities extended to the maintenance of complex energy shielding and the use of heavy-duty vehicles designed to navigate and stabilize the very terrain their weapons intentionally disrupted.
