History
The Fists of Khonshu were humans that were empowered as champions to the Heliopolitan moon god Khonshu.
It was said that when the first Vampires struck that they did so at night which was the province of Khonshu. As such, they provoked the pierce response from the Fists of Khonshu who became their enemies. (Moon Knight v9 #3)
Many years ago, a doctor named Yehya Badr was walking in the night when he was attacked by vampires who struck and killed him where they drank his blood. However, on the night of the full moon, Khonshu appeared before Badr and saved him where he made the man his champion as a Fist of Khonshu. In this role, Badr found a purpose that he had found lacking in his life and became a devoted priest to the moon god. (Moon Knight v9 #6)
Hunter's Moon decided to test the errant Fist that was the Moon Knight over his responsibilities to the moon god. Badr had determined that Spector was broken and deviated from his duty by taking vampires under his protection. However, he said that he intended to help correct Marc and put him back on the right side of service to their god. To Hunter's Moon, he determined that this meant thinning the 'cult' that Moon Knight had surrounded himself with at the Midnight Mission. However, Spector intervened where he beat Badr and warned him not to strike at his temple or those under his protection. (Moon Knight v9 #3)
Overview
In appearance, the Fists of Khonshu were masked champions of the Egyptian god Khonshu. (Moon Knight v9 #3) Each was an avatar for the moon god where they served as their conduit to the physical world. (Moon Knight v9 #11) It was said that talking was never the purpose of the Fists of Khonshu. (Moon Knight v9 #12)
It was noted that there were in fact multiple Fists of Khonshu some of whom operated within the same era. (Moon Knight v9 #3) Each saw themselves as a sibling even if they did not get along with one another. (Moon Knight v9 #6) They operated as priests to Khonshu and as such were able to conduct blessings such as consecrating water. (Moon Knight v9 #18)
During their ordination, a Fist received a gift of the chorus where the memories of the previous champions were invested into their mind. Thus, the memories of dead men were placed within the mind of the new warrior. (Moon Knight v9 #3) For conversing among their own, some of these avatars were able to speak in the High-Temple Speech of Khonshu. (Moon Knight v9 #12)
One aspect of the Fists of Khonshu was that they did not die though in reality this was because their god returned them to life each time. However, there were limits to these resurrections that meant that they were not truly immortal. Upon being revived, a Fist's body was returned strong and unharmed where they were ready to continue their service to their god. However, each resurrection impacted the mind of the champion which suffered as it lost a piece of itself upon each revival. If this continued, nothing was left of the Fist except a being driven by feral violence and raw instinct. Despite such a fate, it was deemed an honor as the Fist of Khonshu gave everything of themselves in service for their father and for justice with nothing being wasted even in death. This process of resurrection though was tied to Khonshu's power and if imprisoned then the ability to return from death was diminished. In some cases, the moon god's power might be weakened to such an extent that they could not revive their champion. (Moon Knight v9 #19)
In terms of fighting, it was said that there was a kind of beauty in the way the Fists of Khonshu battled. (Moon Knight v9 #3)
Adherents saw their god Khonshu as being the greatest of the gods. (Moon Knight v9 #3) The faithful children of Khonshu were able to summon an aspect of their god's spirit and will from the between-space to aid them in metaphysical battles. (Moon Knight v9 #8) In another instance, Khonshu could channel his power to open a path through the worlds to allow their avatar to travel from one location to a distant one. (Moon Knight v9 #11) Such a path was perilous as it meant travelling through the realm of the eternal rest of previous Fists of Khonshu. This angered the undead interred warriors who lashed out at all intruders that disturbed them. (Moon Knight v9 #12)
It as said that vampires had been sworn enemies of the Fists of Khonshu and had always been their responsibility. (Moon Knight v9 #3)
The fallen champions of Khonshu were interred as undead within their god's realm where they lived an eternal rest there. They could be summoned onto the physical world to fight foes before being convinced to return to their slumber. (Moon Knight v9 #12)
