History

The Mishima Zaibatsu (Japanese: 三島財閥?) was a Japanese corporation originally known as the Tekken Zaibatsu or Tekken Corporation that was formerly under the control of Jinpachi Mishima. Initially, it sought to capitalise on the arms industry during World War 2 and grew in power during that era. However, Jinpachi came to regret the direction he had taken the company and his part in promoting violence around the world. This saw him significantly downsizing the business after the war and instead focused on growing his own dojo.

However, he later lost control of the company to his son Heihachi Mishima who ran the Zaibatsu for over forty years. He was responsible for the modern image of the corporation where he built it up financially and turned it into the biggest developer of military equipment in the world.

Control of the Zaibatsu shifted after the events of the first King of Iron Fist Tournament which saw Kazuya Mishima seemingly kill his father and taking over his company. During his tenure, Kazuya increase the corrupt practices of his father whereby he expanded Mishima Zaibatsu's military output. This saw him buying and taking over much of Hokkaido where he engaged in a range of illegal activities that included; kidnapping scientists, trading illegally in animals, conducting experiments on them and further criminal operations. Two years later, he was deposed from his position by Heihachi Mishima who had survived their earlier fight and defeated his son by throwing him into a volcano in the second King of Iron Fist Tournament.

After Heihachi Mishima overthrew Kazuya, he regained control of the Mishima Zaibatsu and all its assets, including the frozen Williams sisters. Almost immediately after taking over, Heihachi ordered Nina's eggs to be harvested whilst she was still in cryosleep, and in vitro fertilization was performed. The Mishima Zaibatsu Supersoldier Program was launched, which intended to create ultimate supersoldiers by experimenting on the resulting children. The project failed due to most of the children dying from the experiment.

A reborn Jinpachi Mishima later took control of the company from his son but was defeated by his great-grandson Jin Kazama who succeeded him by gaining control of the corporation after winning the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5. This was in order to find an opponent who could kill him before the demon animating his body caused untold destruction. Jinpachi was defeated by his great-grandson Jin Kazama who became the next head of the conglomerate.

Jin then used the vast resources of the Zaibatsu to sow civil unrest throughout the world. He declared the Zaibatsu an independent nation and waged war against the entire world in an attempt to awaken an ancient demon that he believed could only be defeated by someone with Devil blood. He also believed killing the demon would remove his devil curse, and give common people a chance to topple corrupt corporations and governments. Jin failed to remove his gene and disappeared after defeating Azazel, but the war continued to rage on between the Zaibatsu and Kazuya's G Corporation, which had now become the Zaibatsu's strongest adversary.

In the aftermath, Jin Kazama disappeared leading to the Zaibatsu losing its leader with command falling to Nina Williams in the meantime. However, without Kazama, the company began to start losing in its conflict against the G Corporation. It was during this time that Heihachi Mishima returned where he managed to re-assert his authority over the Zaibatsu. He then declared a new King of Iron Fist Tournament as he sought to finally defeat his son. Heihachi sought to win the war and to improve the Zaibatsu's image in the process, trying to paint G Corporation as the real evil by revealing Kazuya's devil form to the world. Public opinion was easily swayed back against the Zaibatsu however, when Kazuya's shot a Mishima Zaibatsu satellite out of orbit and the Zaibatsu was blamed for losing control of their own tech.
