Biography

The character was first identified as "Swarm", a member of the Liberators that took part in the Liberator's invasion of America. During the fight with the Ultimates, she was presumed killed when a giant-sized Wasp stepped on her.

After being healed by S.H.I.E.L.D. and enrolled in their rehabilitation program by having a obedience chip installed inside of her if she ever falls out of line, the character was forced to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. under the codename "Red Wasp", in which she was tasked in counter-terrorism then became a member of Nick Fury's and Gregory Stark's Avengers. After she and her team arrested the rogue Captain America, they confronted the Red Skull with the Cosmic Cube. During the fight, the Red Skull immediately recognized the character and sarcastically asked her how she was doing.

The character's origins were further revealed that she was Petra Laskov, a scientist who was the wife of Nikolai Laskov, an Activist working for one of the Red Skull's enemies years prior. When the Red Skull held Petra, Nikolai and their baby son hostage, he forced her to choose whether to kill her husband with a pair of old scissors or watch him shoot her baby. She chose to kill her husband which took over an hour to kill him with the scissors then the Red Skull threw her son out the window and ordered his men to rape her just to send a message.

After Captain America fatally subdued the Red Skull, Petra (dressed like a doctor) walked into the Red Skull's hospital room and shot him in the head, killing him.
