History

Witch Cult (Japanese: 魔女教) were a cult that worshipped the Witch Satella that terrorised the lands of Kingdom of Lugnica that had existed for several centuries. Such was their evil that they attracted the attention of knights who were ordered to annihilate them on sight. The Cult thus went into the shadows where they become elusive and evaded capture.

The warrior Kurgan was later killed by Regulus Corneas when he attacked Garkla. Afterwards, the Vollachian warrior was revived as a puppet to fight for the Witch Cult.

Among their latest schemes was targeting Emilia who was a half-elf candidate for the throne of Lugnica. Due to her resemblance to Satella, they intended to capture her and displace her soul so that the Witch of Envy could be reborn in her body. To that end, they began to work in secret and waited for the opportunity to strike against her with this operation being led by the Sin Archbishop of Sloth.

This led to Subaru Natsuki hiring some merchants to evacuate Irlam Villge from a possible attack of the Witch Cult. As a result, half of the population was transported in the capital while the other half went to the Sanctuary. Meanwhile, soldiers waited in hiding to prepare for an ambush against the Witch's Cult.

Overview

In appearance, the Witch Cult was a secretive organization that consisted of followers of the Witch of Envy. They were outlawed in society and viewed with fear as well as suspicion for their practices. High ranking leaders of the cult were the various Sin Archbishops (大罪司教) each of whom represented one of the seven deadly sins. As such, their were Sin Bishops of Sloth, Lust, Wrath, Envy, Gluttony, Greed and Pride. The position of Pride was noted to had been vacant with the cult looking to find the prophecised person who could take that position. Each of the Sin Archbishops came to be gifted with the power of their Witch's Authorities (権能 Ken'nō) that gave them incredible abilities.

Central to the faith and belief of the cult was their reverence of the Witch of Envy known as Satella. Each member owned a book known as the Witch Cult's Gospel (魔女教徒の福音), which showed them the path to a future they desired through vague details. These books were considered the sacred text of the Witch Cult and revered items. It was written in a language that could not be understood by those not of the cult. The cult long sought for ensuring the events of the Ordeal came to pass. It was said that these were delivered to those that had he potential of joining the cult.

Regular cult members were known to commit suicide when faced with the prospect of captured where they triggered mana stones embedded in their bodies. This caused a poison to be triggered that killed the person to prevent any information on the cult being exposed to outsiders and enemies. As such, witch cultists were said to be notoriously difficult to take alive for questioning.
