Kunimitsu is the name used by several characters in Tekken.

Kunimitsu (Kunimitsu I)

Kunimitsu (州光?) was a female human born in the modern age. At some point, she came to be a member of the Manji clan who were ninja bandits led by Yoshimitsu. She lost her Japanese identity when she joined the group to maintain her anonymity. Upon joining, she was taught the skills of the stealth knife and Manji-style ninjutsu. She stayed with the group for a few months, until a series of petty thefts from the band's funds led to her dismissal. At a loose end, she decided to train as a mechanic mending air conditioners. She entered the first King of Iron Fist Tournament intending to steal a Native American treasure from a young brave Michelle Chang. Kunimitsu, fearing the wrath of the vengeful Michelle, went into hiding. Feeling humiliated, Kunimitsu sought solace with her grandfather. He was a swordsmith with a reputation. He informed Kunimitsu that the sword used by Yoshimitsu was a relic of unimaginable value. She learned that it was handed down through the Manji band and it had the power to sever an enemy both spiritually and mentally. The sword exchanges hands when a new leader is elected. The old leader is ritually sacrificed and the sword's power is transferred to its new owner. Kunimitsu's grandfather has spent his entire existence trying to forge a copy of the sword. Kunimitsu had to enter the second tournament to face and defeat Yoshimitsu and claim the sword so that her grandfather could make a copy before his death.

However, her sights soon turned toward more personal pursuits, and she set out to steal a highly coveted Native American treasure from Michelle Chang in the very first King of Iron Fist Tournament. After ultimately being defeated, Kunimitsu then sought out the Yoshimitsu sword on her grandfather’s behalf, who wished to create a replica of the weapon — but her efforts were thwarted by Yoshimitsu himself, causing her to retreat to her family home out of humiliation.

Kunimitsu (Kunimitsu II)

Kunimitsu (州光?) was a female human born in the modern age where she was the daughter of the original Kunimitsu.

An interest shared with her mother, Kunimitsu was especially interested in industrial technology, so she accepted and decided to go to Mishima Polytechnical School undercover as a student to investigate the Mishima Zaibatsu. It was rumored that the school was somehow connected to the Tekken Force, the special operations unit of the Mishima Zaibatsu.

One day, Kunimitsu got a call that her mother's condition had worsened. She rushed to see her bedridden mother and heard the story of the only thing her mother could not obtain in the past. Kunimitsu was then determined to obtain the sword called "Yoshimitsu" from Yoshimitsu to cheer her mother up. Rushing back to her family home, Kunimitsu II learned of the one treasure that her now-bedridden mother hadn’t been able to steal in the past. Determined to cheer her up, she set out to retrieve the sword that her grandfather had once coveted many years ago… a sword that caused her mother to retreat from ninja life.

Overview

In appearance, Kunimitsu was the identity taken by a female thief who would wear a distinct fox-like mask to hide their identity. They were also shown to wear full-body ninja suits with boots and gloves. The flower patterns on her outfit are those of Japanese wisteria, which have a wide range of symbolism including immortality, loneliness, and love. The bearer was known by the name of the Devil Cat.

Kunimitsu was a very enigmatic character, speaking few words and revealing little of her personality. However, it can be deduced from her actions when she part of the Manji Clan that she is a cold, selfish person with a greed for riches and valuables. Despite this, Kunimitsu does not seem to be completely heartless, as she seems to have a fondness for her grandfather who, in turn, was welcoming to her after she returned from her time spent with the Manji Clan. It is strongly implied that her daughter looks up to her, as her daughter goes after Yoshimitsu after learning of Kunimitsu's pursuit of his sword long ago.

They were shown as being kunoichi ninjas trained in a variety of martial arts. Kunimitsu fights using ninjutsu. Kunimitsu II fights using Ninjutsu and tantojutsu.

Upon joining, she was taught the skills of the stealth knife at the Manji Clan schools of 'Jujutau'.

It was shown that the original Kunimitsu was a former member of the Manji Clan who were ninja bandits led by Yoshimitsu. The Manji crime syndicate were a noted group consisting of thieves who stole from the rich and gives to the poor and innocent around the world. Kunimitsu was once second in command, until she was expelled by Yoshimitsu when it was discovered that she was stealing from the clan's funds.

• The concept of the Kunimitsu was created by Namco where she featured in the setting of Tekken universe.

In other media

Films

• In Tekken: The Motion Picture, Kunimitsu made a non-speaking cameo appearance in the setting of the anime film. She was along other fighters seen in the background but played no role in the storyline.

Video games

• In Tekken Tag Tournament, Kunimitsu appeared in the setting of the non-canonical tag team fighting video game.
• In Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Kunimitsu appeared in the setting of the non-canonical tag team fighting video game. She was a female ninja who was once a member of the Manji Clan of chivalrous thieves. After acting on her own selfish desires, she was excommunicated by the Manji Clan leader Yoshimitsu. No one knows her true identity hidden behind that fox mask.
• In Street Fighter X Tekken, Kunimitsu appeared in the setting of the crossover fighting video game. She was seen in the Mishima Estate stage background talking to Street Fighter character Sarai, who was Ibuki's classmate.
