Biography
Early history
Little is known of Gustaf Brackman's early life except that he became a leading doctor in the field of cybernetics in the old Earth Empire. Being a brilliant expert in the field, he was eventually successful in creating a "twining process" where he was successful in the merging of an artificial intelligence with that of a human host in the year 2592. This led to the formation of a cybernetic class of human beings who were enhanced and became known as Symbionts who were far superior to ordinary human beings. They eventually rose to prominent positions within the Earth Empire. However, in order to ensure their power, the Empire ordered a secret loyalty program installed that would ensure their loyalty. When the Earth Empire began to crumble due to its immense size, the symbiont worlds and citizens began to revolt against the government who later initiated their secret programming. Whilst the majority of the symbionts fell as a slave class to Earth's commands, a small number of free members of these cyborgs fled with their creator Dr. Brackman where they went into space and formed the Cybran Nation.
For the next 1,300 years, the Cybran Nation prospered under the leadership of Dr. Brackman who survived by removing his brain and placing it within a life support system. Being the leader of the Cybrans, a number of assassination attempts were made on Brackman's life but all of them failed and they only succeeded in making him a more determined foe. In this early stage, Dr. Brackman petitioned the newly formed United Earth Federation to freeing the remaining symbionts but he was refused. He along with his fellow free Cybrans had since fought a shadowy conflict against the UEF in order to free their comrades from the loyalty program. Due to him becoming a target for further attacks, Dr. Brackman's whereabouts were usually unknown and this allowed him to continue his long battle at freeing the rest of his children from the control of Earth. During this time, he also uncovered knowledge of the Seraphim race as well as their advanced technology which he later used to create a powerful artificial intelligence known as QAI.
Cybran Nation
During the conflict with the Seraphim, Dr. Brackman worked with his Cybrans in forming an alliance with both the Illuminate and the UEF in fighting the threat of the alien invaders and their allies. Brackman's support included the creation of a translator that allowed for them to understand the Seraphim language.
New Experiments
Following the defeat of the Seraphim, a number of members of this alien race had been captured by the Cybran Nation. These specimens were used by Dr. Brackman who spent the next twenty five years studying them as well as incorporating not only their technology but their genetic material into his symbionts. In addition, Dr. Brackman was involved in a new experiment that brought about the creation of a test tube baby which would be his own biological son though the details of the child's mother were unknown but some believed that the female donor was the deceased Ivana Dostya who had died fighting the Seraphim. The boy was to be Dr. Brackman's first development of the new Proto-Brain technology that had resulted in the creation of fully grown human beings that were hybrids which contained cybernetics as well as the new Proto-Brains. This child, which he named Ivan Brackman, was raised in the Haven Node whilst under the close supervision of his "father". This new 3.11 series of Proto-Brain proved to be a success by his son and after initial monitoring; he allowed him to join Cybran society. The successes of Ivan allowed Dr. Brackman to develop dozens of further Proto-Cybrans with most serving in his private laboratories or in the military. Seeing Ivan's achievements, Gustaf Brackman enrolled him in the Colonial Defense Coalition academy on Altair II where he graduated at the top of his class. Following graduation, Ivan was placed in Gustaf's personal protection forces but was kept on a very tight lease.
Overview
Personality and attributes
After he left the Earth Empire, Gustaf Brackman removed his brain and spinal cord which were later suspended in a special designed oxygen rich amniotic solution. This had the further affect of extending Dr. Brackman's life as he was over a thousand years old by later events.
Whilst he cared deeply about his "children", one symbiont that was close to Brackman's heart was Commander Dostya. After her demise, he was in denial and even asked a Commander to reclaim her body as he did not want to lose what was left of her. He would later call her his "beloved" Dostya and her death deeply saddened Gustaf Brackman.
