History

Origin

The Tornado Twins were twins Don Allen and Dawn Allen both of whom were the direct descendants of Barry Allen who was the superhero speedster known as the Flash. (Adventure Comics v1 #373)

The pair were raised in the far future by their mother during a time when EarthGov grew more tyrannical where they looked to capture, experiment and exploit paranormals. In this time, Earth was also looking to join an interstellar confederacy of worlds though this move was opposed by a percentage of humanity whose xenophobic views rejected interaction with aliens. This mean that even powered people were subject to suspicion and viewed as not-human with lynch mobs attacking them as well. To avoid such dangers, Iris told her children to avoid the use of their powers in the open and to keep a low profile. Whilst growing up, the twins came to learn about Wally West and became jealous of him as being the favoured 'child' of their father who was not there for them. A time displaced Wally West as the Flash came to arrive in the 30th century where he came across the Tornado Twins. At first, they confused him with their father but upon learning it was Wally West they became somewhat resentful of his presence. At the time, they witnessed a mob attacking a Coluan with Wally looking to help the man only to be attacked by the violent humans who looked to kill him. The Tornado Twins though intervened where they used their speed to create miniature tornados to hide their presence whilst they saved Wally and cam to terms with him as they became friends. They later helped him by providing him enough Speed Force energy that would allow him to go into the timestream back to his own time. (The Flash v2 #114)

In the 30th century, Don came to meet Meloni Thawne who was the daughter of Earthgov President Thawne. The Thawne family over ten generations had been bitter enemies of the Allen's but Meloni came to fall in love with Don. This saw her becoming pregnant with his child who was Bart Allen but the hatred President Thawne felt for the Allen was so deep that he saw his daughter as being corrupted by Don Allen. As a result, he conspired with the Dominators to take over the planet and had the Tornado Twins killed in the process. Though deceased, the Twin's own respective children came to survive the purge with Bart taken away for study whilst Dawn Allen's daughter Jenni was left unharmed as she seemingly never inherited her mothers superspeed. (Impulse v1 #5)

Shortly after Jenni's birth, their family was attacked by the villainous Professor Zoom. They, along with Don's family, attempted to flee to a parallel Earth using the Cosmic Treadmill. However, Zoom sabotaged the device, causing an explosion which created a rift in the multiverse. Zoom was ultimately defeated by an army of three different Legions of Super-Heroes, but Dawn and her family were subsequently stranded on Earth-247. (Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds v1 #3)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Dawn and Don Allen were the twin children of Barry Allen and Iris West where they were raised in the 30th century. This time together was said to be the happiest time of his life but when they were young the twin's father went into the Multiverse to save it from destruction. The Flash never returned to this era leading to his children growing up without him. One day, they were attacked by an assailant and saved by Eobard Thawne who took the twins under his wing. He had taught them to use their speed-related abilities and they came to see him as an uncle. (The Flash v5 #758)

The Reverse-Flash came to recruit the Tornado Twins he had raised to become part of his Legion of Zoom. (The Flash v5 #758)

The Tornado Twins were then confronted by Impulse, Don's son. Bart convinced the two speedsters to stop fighting as they realized that Thawne used the Negative Speed Force to turn them against the Flash Family. Don and Dawn then started to fade, with Dawn telling Bart to tell Iris that they are sorry for what they did before going home. (The Flash v5 #760)

Don and Dawn would later be visited by their parents, who traveled to the 30th Century with the Cosmic Treadmill of the the Flash Museum. The Allen family had many adventures together before Barry and Iris tearfully returned to the present. (The Flash v1 #800)
