They pursued him into the mountains, and a shot by Johnny caused a rockslide that tumbled him and .44 into a river. Thunder saved .44 from drowning,. And gave her mouth to mouth. He had to remove her mask, and realized that she was indeed photographer. Jeanne Walker. The river washed the black dye from his hair that he used as a disguise, and she recognized him as John Tane. After a tense standoff Johnny shot Silk Black, and they returned to Mesa City. Johnny convinced .44 to see his father the sheriff. Johnny revealed his identity to his father, who got the governor to pardon .44’s past wrongdoing. Together tThunder and .44 served as the law in Mesa City for many years. They fell in love, got married, and raised two children, Becky and Chuck. (DC Comics Presents v1 #28)

Biography

Pre-Crisis

Johnny Thunder and Madame .44 were once again trying to ferret out each other’s secret identities hen they witnessed outlaw Silk Black rob a bank. They pursued him into the mountains, and a shot by Johnny caused a rockslide that tumbled him and .44 into a river. Thunder saved .44 from drowning,. And gave her mouth to mouth. He had to remove her mask, and realized that she was indeed photographer. Jeanne Walker. The river washed the black dye from his hair that he used as a disguise, and she recognized him as John Tane. Overview

Personality and attributes

As a young boy, he was enamoured by Max Mercury who he thought was a genie after seeing him emerge from lightning. He came to ask the man a wish which was to stop the arguments between his parents. On that night though, his mother was killed by a criminal and Johnny believed that the genie had granted the wish as the arguments had indeed ended with the death of his mother. At first, he blamed the 'genie' for the death of Ella Tane but then decided that he was simply just doing what was commanded of him. (Impulse Annual v1 #2)

From Max Mercury, he came to be inspired to adopt a secret identity as a masked vigilante. This allowed Johnny to keep the promise to his mother. (Impulse Annual v1 #2)

Powers and abilities

He rode an aged white stallion that he named Black Lightning. (All-American Comics v1 #100)
