When Professor Sumdac was kidnapped by Megatron, his daughter Sari took over even though the board unanimously voted for Powell to take over, much to Powell's chagrin. Powell however was able to seize control of Sumdac Systems from her by proving she was not really Professor Sumdac's daughter. Since then he hired criminal scientist Henry Masterson to begin building war-machines. After the Autobots rescue Professor Sumdac from Megatron, one of Sumdac's first actions upon returning to his company was to fire Powell as well as Masterson.
