Shanks was a member of the Albatross' crew. During John Strock and Phillip Evans' attempt to sabotage the airship's armory, they fought with and knocked out Shanks. He was later found and revived by Turner and Alistair, although too late to prevent the sabotage which doomed the Albatross. Although ordered by Robur to evacuate, Shanks, along with his fellow crew members, chose to remain aboard and die with their leader.
