However, in six months a cataclysm caused Ceti Alpha VI led to it shifting the planetary system's orbits leading to Ceti Alpha V moving from its position. The result of massive ecological devastation on Ceti Alpha V and drastically altered the planet's surface. Khan's ingenuity along with the few supplies in the containers allowed his people to survive but many of his followers died at the hands of the indigenous life forms that were the Ceit eels. These parasitic organisms used host bodies for their young with twenty of Khan's people dying slowly maddening deaths at the hands of the eels with this including his wife. Afterwards, they continued to live on the desolate world until [[2285]] when the [[U.S.S. Reliant]] came to their world in search for a test planet for the [[Genesis Device]]. The crew of the Starfleet ship believed that they were surveying Ceti Alpha VI and Captain Clark Terrell and Commander Pavel Chekov both transported to the surface to ensure no life existed on it.
