The mind controlled Thor was sent against his teammates where the Scarlet Witch and Havok fought against him. Meanwhile, Captain America himself tried to stop the Red Skull but slowly fell under the villains new telepathic powers. He was only stopped when Rogue came to absorb the powers of the Goat Faced Girl allowing her to shut down the Skull's telepathic influence. The Red Skull attempted to shoot Rogue with a pistol but the shot went wide due to an attack from Havok from behind. However, unknown to Havok, the bullet injured Rogue enough for the Goat Faced Girls powers to be negated. This allowed the Red Skull to instantly alter Havok's perceptions making him think he was attacking the Nazi supervillain when in reality the Mutant was beating his own teammate namely Rogue. This chain of events though allowed Captain America to sneak up on the Red Skull and attack him. History

The S-Men were a team of superhumans that were brought together by the Red Skull to wage a war against Mutants. He intended to use the fear of Mutants to unite all of humanity on Earth into an eternal Reich under his rule. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #2) Many of their members had suffered some hardship or tragedy due to the actions of Mutants where they eagerly were recruited to bring about the extermination of Homo Superior. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #3) From a village in Ethiopia came a man who had survived the death of his family at the hands of Magneto and his followers where he only survived by hiding within an oil drum until the Mutants departed the area. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #2) Another recruit was Tsar Sultan whose wife died in a blaze caused by a rampaging Mutant. Taken in by the Red Skull, he used a variety of painful ways to empower them for their new role. This included the use of physical alterations, cellular augmentations, cursed relics and genetic enhancement therapy performed by Arnim Zola. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #3)

They later struck at the grave site of Professor Xavier in order to attack Rogue and the Scarlet Witch with the two being captured as a result. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #1) Taken to the Red Skulls base, Wanda Maximoff was brought to their leader who intended to use her abilities to purge the planet of Mutants. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #2)

The Red Skull then made his move to New York City where he used his new telepathic abilities where he instilled hate of Mutants among citizens. He then had his S-Men arrive where he claimed Mutants such as Rogue and the Scarlet Witch were responsible for all their woes. Both were telepathically goaded to accept responsibility and even stating that they had planned to eliminate the 'human threat'. This led to a mob of humans gather to attack the pair where their hatred was amplified by the Red Skull who urged them to remove these 'foreign intruders'. In time, the mob began to attack anyone they deemed to be 'foreign' including other humans that were simply passing through the scene. The S-Men were privy to the Red Skull's plans with them being fine with a few of their kind being killed in order to save the many. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #3)

Unable to fight off the American supersoldier, the Red Skull was only saved by Dancing Water who used a puddle to transport herself and her leader to safety. With the villain gone, the telepathic hate he projected on the people of the city dissipated and recovery efforts were made. The Unity Squad had attempted to search for their foes but by this point the S-Men were gone having fled with their leader. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #4)

Later on, the S-Men were alongside their leader as he made his plans from the shadows. By this point, he approached Jet Zola the daughter of Arnim Zola who had established his base of operations in Dimension Z. During that time, he had a son and daughter with the latter having joined Captain America on Earth. By this point though, she was feeling out of place in the world and the Red Skull had the Insect approach her in his human guise. Tsar Sultan would trick Jet into meeting the Red Skull. (Captain America v7 #16)

Overview

In appearance, the S-Men were a team of superpowered individuals brought together to wage a war against Mutants. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #2)

A common factor among the team was that many of its members had suffered at the hands of Mutants and claimed their lives were ruined as a result. Mutants were seen as the ultimate foreign invader and thus needed to be exterminated. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #2) All members of the S-Men had endured terrible experiments to ready them for the coming war against Mutants. These included physical alterations, cellular amalgamations, Zola's genetic enhancement therapy and the possession of cursed relics. All such measures were used with the S-Men having given their lives for the cause. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #3)

Their actions were deemed to be done so to protect mankind and to take back their own future from Mutants. The S-Men were fine for other humans to die as part of their schemes. They reasoned that the few had to die in order to save the many. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #3)

They were based at a secret facility maintained by the Red Skull which he considered to be a school for gifted humans. It included a multiregional training facility that could replicate different environments. (Uncanny Avengers v1 #2)
