Finishing posting old entries

Hi, sorry for sitting on some of your entries from the older version of the wiki for so long. I'm making a pre-New Year's resolution to get them posted before Dec. 31, at least... Jeb 20:07, 17 December 2007 (CST)

Pop-Cult.org greatings

I posted this at Jeb's user talk page, but since he seems to be no loger active, I'm trying to contact the administrator in command.

Hi, I'm Armando Torre Puerto. I'm a Wikipedian that decided to create hiw own "wiki"-site after realizing wikipedia doesn't share my scope.
[www.pop-cult.org] focuses on all culture related issue. It's scope ranges from fashion, sports, TV, film, comics, literature and the main difference from wikipedia is that it can feature articles about clothing items, merchandise, episodes, fictional characters, internet pages, etc. I created the site a couple of years ago by reformatting some wikipedia articles as examples of what the site is about (a strategy used at first by Citizendium too). Then I moved on to create articles of my own. So far I've done around 1000, including stubs, lists, and the initial ones. Since it is my main interest in fiction, most of the original content is about the DC animated universe. Since I have work and college (I'm finishing my thesis), I haven't been able to grow the site faster. One of my main problems is that I ignore how to gain Internet popularity and editors. I've only had a couple of editors so far. Another problem is hosting and speed, since I want the project to be independent from wikimedia, I bought a server and stored it there, but it seems I sacrificed speed by doing so.
I have to admit, I was shocked to learn you made a similar site, but I was relieved when I figured your site rather focuses on in-universesand came to the conclusion that, now that we've made contact, we could start a cooperative synergy to grow together. After all, according to Google AdSense, linking is the main tool we have to increase popularity. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your time. Best regards.

Ps: Since Jeb seems to be inactive, I'm placing a copy at the user talk page of both bureaucrats.

Do you know who can help me?--Pop-Cult-Guy 20:07, 10 October 2008 (CDT). Hell, now that I think about it, we should form a league of independent "wikis" to help, aid, promote ourselves and share resources afterr making the respective agreements... Although, so far, other than Pop-Cult.org, I only know you guys.--Pop-Cult-Guy 01:34, 11 October 2008 (CDT)

Bureaucrat

I have given you Bureaucrat rights (long overdue!). This means you can promote users to sysop (or, if you really trust them, bureaucrat) at will. Please be liberal in giving sysop rights out, unless someone seems really fishy. And if a spammer or such does get through, feel free to take the sysop rights back... Another option besides super-locking down the wiki

Also posted on Darth Batrus's profile. Rather than limiting editing to sysops and bureaucrats, which will discourage new users in a major kinda way, now that you guys have the power to ban users (when you're logged in, there should be a "block" option near the user's name in recent edits), maybe the spam problem is manageable. Are you guys willing to be spam police when I'm not here? Jeb 23:52, 17 November 2008 (CST)

FYI, it appears the spam edits, while frequent, were by a limited list of usernames (although the user list has many more suspicious names on it) on a limited set of pages. So this seems like a problem that won't be too hard to manage, and if it is, I can restore "sysop/bureaucrat-only". But it's up to you two, you all are here way more than I am... • Sure, I wouldn't mind being a spam cop. - Kooshmeister
      • Great, thanks! OK, I've restored the right of general users to edit. Like I said, if it gets ridiculous again, I'll restrict it once more... Jeb 07:26, 18 November 2008 (CST)
