Biography

Thomas Corsi

Raised Catholic, Tom Corsi briefly served in the U.S. Army before becoming a police officer in Salem Center, New York. (X-Men: Earth's Mutant Heroes v1 #1) Tom Corsi was a police officer for ten years. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #298) During his time on the force, Tom never had to fire his gun. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #254)

Tom Corsi was on call when Danielle Moonstar was mauled and nearly killed by a bear. Corsi brought Dani and her fellow students to the local Salem Center hospital. Corsi stayed with the students while the medical staff, including nurse Sharon Friedlander, rushed to save Dani's life. During the wait, Corsi almost shot young Rahne Sinclair when he caught her sniffing around in her wolf form. Shaken by the experience, he went up to nurse Friedlander for a chat that turned into a brief flirtation. Seconds later, the Demon Bear manifested itself and drew the New Mutants and both Corsi and Friedlander to his realm, the Bad Lands. (New Mutants v1 #19) Corsi and Friedlander were forced to serve as the Demon Bear's pawns. After they were touched with his claws, they transformed into twisted versions of Native American warriors, armed with enchanted traditional weapons such as lariats and tomahawks. Eventually, Illyana Rasputin's soulsword was able to break the Bear's magical hold over them. After the sword also vanquished the Demon Bear itself, they returned with the New Mutants from the Badlands only to find they were physically changed into Native Americans. William and Peg Moonstar assured Xavier and his students there was no way to reverse the process: once touched by the Bear's evil, its mark remains. That did not stop Illyana from trying to use her soulsword on them again. Xavier even consulted Stephen Strange but that endeavor proved fruitless as well. (New Mutants v1 #20)

Unable to return to their previous lives due to their transformations, Tom and Sharon took up positions at Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, around the same time that Magneto became headmaster. They assisted around the school with tasks like supervising the New Mutants and collecting them from trips to Salem Center. Sharon was even able to continue putting her nursing abilities to good use. Their position at the school even extended to consulting with Magneto on the development of the New Mutants and their powers. (New Mutants v1 #36) Tom and Sharon were out for a walk on the snow-covered school grounds when they happened across Empath of the Hellions. They recognized him from the X-Men's files and suggested he come inside so Magneto could talk to him. Empath, however, had no intention of following the instructions of two humans and used his emotion-manipulating power on them, forcing them to act on their interest for each other, but with a bestial desire. Cruelly, Empath continued his psychic attack beyond simply distracting them. Tom and Sharon’s love for each other became base desire, then love without limit. As time went on, they became addicted, demanding more and more stimulus to satisfy their cravings until they were hollow. Empath prompted the two to change their appearance as well as emotions, leading them to shave parts of their hair and dress in revealing, bondage costumes. Possibly left for dead by Empath, Tom nevertheless survived and was able to carry Sharon back to the Mansion, where they were discovered by Magneto and taken to the infirmary. Sharon recovered first and recounted the trauma that happened to them to the furious Magneto. (New Mutants v1 #39)
