History
These Sentinel Prime units were programmed to accomplish the goals set forth by Operation: Zero Tolerance. (X-Men v2 #66)
Stryfe made use of an incomplete catalyst code to partially activate Prime Sentinels that drew the attention of the X-Men. He intended to make use of Lady Deathstrike to complete the code to create a cyborg army but was defeated by the band of Mutant heroes. (X-Men Annual v2 2000)
After the unleashing of the Terrigen Cloud, a group called core command revived the Prime Sentinels that were tasked with eliminating Mutants that were being sterilized by the mists. (Civil War II: X-Men v1 #1)
Overview
These cyborgs were described as being Nimrod class Sentinel hybrids that were a fusion of man and machine. (X-Force v1 #69) Whilst flesh and blood, it was believed that the cyborg half was the dominant among them. As such, telepaths could not find humanity or a soul in them with these being deemed a liability. Thus, these parts of the human mind were deleted upon transformation into a Prime Sentinel. It was believed that these individuals upon transformation were as good as dead as anything of their former selves was lost and that eliminating the cyborg was an act of mercy. (X-Men Annual v2 2000)
They were said to be equipped with technology that made them equal to the task of eliminating Mutants. (X-Men v2 #66) An alpha mode trigger sequence that was a dedicated encryption code could be sent through sources such as emails. These were sent to forcibly activate sleeper agents and transform them into their Prime Sentinel forms. Prime Sentinels were able to transform others into more of their number. (X-Men Annual v2 2000)
The Prime Directive of these Sentinels was to terminate Mutants and moved to execute that program. (X-Men Annual v2 2000)
Prime Sentinels were able to engage a self-destruct mode. Typically, if defeated, these cyborgs initiated a memory core purge. However, internal magnetic pulses could destroy the defensive protocols leaving some data present but elements of it could be damaged in the process. Weapons that utilized electro-magnetic non-lethal pulses could scrambled their command nets and incapacitated them. (X-Men Annual v2 2000)

Video games
- In X-Men: Next Dimension, the Prime Sentinels appeared as antagonists in the story setting and as playable characters in the fighting game. They had been created by Bastion as part of his Operation: Zero Tolerance but after his defeat they became directionless. Thus, they staged a rescue of his robotic head by taking human form in order to continue their objective of eliminating Mutants. The Prime Sentinels forged an alliance with the Brotherhood of Mutants to stage an assault on the X-Mansion before turning on their allies. They were responsible for the capture of Forge so that Bastion could use his natural ability to upgrade the Prime Sentinels and provide them with a Mutagenic dampener designed to remove Mutant powers. The Prime Sentinels were later defeated by the X-Men and Brotherhood following the defeat of Bastion.
