History

The Agents of the Cosmos was an organization that operated in the universe that consisted of organic hosts that were bonded to a Klyntar symbiote. Originating from the Planet of the Symbiotes, the Symbians required intelligent organisms in order to forge a host relationship with and use it to reach out across the universe to aid those that cannot help themselves. Thus, they sought the perfection relationship with the ideal hosts in order to create noble warriors that sought out justice in the universe. However, only a select number of hosts were capable of achieving the balance needed for such a role and thus many such unions turning monstrous as the Symbiote became corrupted with these renegade members separating from the Klyntar collective. These rogue members of their kind created devastation and tarnished the name of the Symbiotes with their kind seeking to continue their noble duty. (Guardians of the Galaxy v3 #23) To some denizens of the universe, the Agents of the Cosmos were seen as heroes as they often targeted criminal activities and saved people. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #1) They later came to be at odds with the organization of the Spaceknights. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #12)

Flash Thompson as Agent Venom had his Symbiote receive the call from its race to their homeworld. Once there, the Klyntar revealed their origins to him and purged his Symbiote of its corruption. It re-bonded with him as Flash had now become an Agent of the Cosmos set to bring justice in the universe. (Guardians of the Galaxy v3 #23) Thompson afterwards began to hear the voices from the cosmos that directed him on numerous missions across space where he thwarted numerous criminal operations. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #1) Agent Venom later encountered two fellow Agents of the Cosmos named Tarna and Myntril who tested him with them deeming him worthy to continue in his role. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #2) However, Venom was forced to bond with the criminal Mercurio causing him to experience feelings of rage despite Thompson's influence. This was felt by the Agents of the Cosmos who dispatched Tarna to retrieve Venom to be returned to the cosmos. This resulted in Flash fighting with Tarna and upon discovering this the Venom Symbiote attacked Tarna's Klyntar badly wounding it before escaping the planet. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #7) In the aftermath, the Venom symbiote went rogue and began killing people on various worlds. The Agents of the Cosmos were contacted by Tarna to check out other worlds Thompson had gone to in order to provide care along with clean up where needed. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #8)

Overview

It consisted of a symbiotic merger between the Klyntar and its host body with the organism seeing the physical body as a partner. When angry, the host led their Symbiote take charge where they became stronger and more deadly in combat. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #4) By taking shape around their host, the Symbiote provided numerous advantages including enhanced strength, ability to survive in space unaided and even shape its form into melee weapons such as blades. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #1) A cleansed Symbiote was able to separate from the host and maintain its own body for a time. With practice, they could do so for half an Earth day though initially they could so for an hour. This allowed them to take a humanoid form and speak with their host. However, they typically preferred the joined state more as it made them more in tune with the cosmos. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #4) Separation with a Klyntar was achieved through practice but required a level of trust between the host and the Symbiote. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #7) Corrupt Symbiotes that were separated from the collective could be purged of their malignancy and allowed to re-join in order to become an Agent of the Cosmos. (Guardians of the Galaxy v3 #23) Cleansing was not an exact science with not all Symbiotes surviving the experience with those able to do so being monitored for any impurities. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #7) The Klyntars were vulnerable to sonic attacks causing the Symbiote's substance to detach from their host. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #1)

The Symbians had the mind and soul of a warrior but needed a form in order to act out to bring about the true ways of a noble and virtuous galaxy according to them. As such, they were dedicated to making a great society with this achieved by them seeking out a perfect symbiosis with their hosts to create the ultimate noble warrior. (Guardians of the Galaxy v3 #23) It was said that the Agents were tied to the cosmos itself with them hearing it as voices in their mind and when it cried out they answered. This at times manifested as providing help when it was needed and making the universe a better place. To them, they held that the cosmos was always by their side. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #2) They knew when their Agents had fallen into the wrong hands and sensed the pulses of a Klyntar if it succumbed to negative emotions. If a Klyntar suffered from corruption, the Agents of the Cosmos separated them from the host and arranged for a replacement. Those Symbiotes deemed irredeemably damaged were not returned to be purified but were rather destroyed in order to be returned to the cosmos. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #7) This was because corrupted Klyntar were not just corrosive to themselves but damaged the hosts as well. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #8) These corrupted Symbiotes were taken to fight in an arena with other Klyntar as part of trials with the organism required to surrender to pass it. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #10)

They considered themselves to be agents of peace. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #10) Agents of the Cosmos recompensed any and all kinds of damage created by their number. (Venom: Space Knight v1 #8)
