History

Coordinators (Japanese: コーディネーター, Hepburn: Kōdinētā?) were a race of genetically enhanced human beings that emerged during the Cosmic Era.

In Cosmic Era 15, a highly respected man by the name of George Glenn announced to the world that through a genetic manipulation procedure that he was the first of a new race of human beings called the Coordinators. These engineered human beings were better than normal humans and disclosed the process of creating more of his kind to the public.

At first, the creation of these Coordinators was deemed illegal until the ban was repealed by CE 30's leading to a Coordinator Bloom until the CE 50's.

In time, one of the most prominent of the anti-Coordinator factions that operated from the Earth Alliance was Blue Cosmos. This era saw the development of the major modern political power blocs where they began building the space colonies that were known as the PLANTs (Productive Location Ally on Nexus Technology, later People Liberation Acting Nation of Technology). These became the new home for Coordinators whilst the naturals sought to make Earth their exclusive domain. By this point, tensions between humanity and the Coordinators had grown increasingly intense with this partially stoked by Blue Cosmos members coming into positions of power across the Atlantic Federation. Anti-Coordinator sentiment caused many of their kind to either go to neutral nations like the Orb Union or head into space among the PLANTs where they were more welcome by their own kind.

During this time, the Coordinator colonies among the PLANTs came to form a political union known as the Zodiac Alliance. The group was responsible for peacefully fighting for the rights and independence of the Coordinators. By CE 50, a military force was created by Patrick Zala and Siegel Clyne to defend the PLANTs with this being the Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty (ZAFT).

Overview

In appearance, the Coordinator were a race of human that were genetically engineered with increased traits. These made them capable of quickly learning, were stronger, had faster bodies and were virtually immune to diseases. As such, they were physically and mentally superior to baseline normal humans.

The genetic modifications made to create a Coordinator were performed in the earliest stages of embryonic development. Once done, the embryo was re-inserted into the human mother's body for gestation. The enhancements were then passed onto the Coordinator's children without the need for further enhancements. Natural parents that genetically engineered their children in this manner where they were referred to as first-generation Coordinators whose children would be second-generation.

Their superior abilities stirred feelings of hatred and envy from base-line humans.

It was revealed that George Glenn's true intention for the Coordinators was to help 'coordinate' the next evolution of humanity.
