History

Dakara was a planet that was located in the Milky Way galaxy. Originally, it was inhabited by the Ancients who were galaxy spanning race of humans that once existed long ago. At the time, they were suffering from a plague that had decimated their civilisation and in an effort to seed life in the galaxy they constructed a large machine on Dakara for the task.

Long after the death of the Ancients, a parasitic race of beings known as the Goa'uld came to dominance in the galaxy. They came to use the Ancients Stargate network to spread across worlds and establish their empire that was headed by the System Lords. At some point, they came to the planet Dakara that became a colony of the Goa'uld empire. Later on, the Goa'uld would encounter humans who they found to be ideal hosts for themselves. A number of these humans were brought to Dakara where they were genetically altered to be living incubators and warriors for the Goa'uld. Thus, the planet came to be the site of the first ritual that created the Jaffa. According to the stories told by the Jaffa, Dakara was the planet where their enslavement began. At the Temple, Jaffa were given their strength and longevity through the first implantation of symbiotes into the Jaffa. The temple is the ultimate holy ground of the Goa'uld, who kept the Jaffa loyal by propagating lies that they were gods. The very idea of stepping into Dakara was unthinkable to the free Jaffa.

After the Replicators started to invade the galaxy, killing Goa'uld and taking over their fleets, Bra'tac and Teal'c decided that this was the best time to take over Dakara, which would give the Jaffa Rebellion a huge propaganda victory, because no god would allow that such a holy ground would be taken over. Although at first many rebel Jaffa didn't like the idea and thought it was crazy, they finally agreed and a small fleet attacked Dakara. Because the planet was only lightly protected (the other troops were fighting the Replicators), it easily fell to the rebellion. However it was during this time that the SGC was informed by Ba'al, that Dakara was the home of an Ancient device that could be converted into a superweapon (see Dakara Superweapon), and that he was working for Anubis, who wanted to use the weapon to wipe out all life in the galaxy to remake it after his wishes. So Ba'al sent a fleet to the planet and attacked the rebel fleet, while Samantha Carter, with the aid of her father, Jacob Carter, his Tok'ra symbiote, Selmak, and later even Ba'al, modified and used the weapon to wipe out all Replicators in the galaxy.

The capture of the planet proved to the majority of Jaffa still in servitude, that the Goa'uld were not in fact gods. This led to a general revolt by the Jaffa against their masters. Combined with the weakened state the Goa'uld were left in after their war with the Replicators, this resulted in the fall of the System Lords and the collapse of the Goa'uld Empire.

Shortly after this occurred, the Free Jaffa Nation was declared, with Dakara being made the capital. The grand city that surrounded the Superweapon seemed Roman. However Anubis made a last attempt to recapture the planet and was even able to activate the weapon. However then Oma Desala, the Ancient who helped Anubis to ascend, intervened and the weapon was shut down. Afterwards it was presumed destroyed, to prevent Anubis or anyone else from ever using it.

Two years later, the Jaffa High Council, now located on Dakara, authorized the use of the weapon, which had not been destroyed as required by their treaty with Earth, in a last-ditch attempt to strike back at the Ori. Instead of directly attacking their armies, the weapon was used against a recently conquered planet inhabited by thousands of innocent humans on which an Ori Mothership had landed.

It was the Jaffa's intention to kill all hands aboard and later take control of the abandoned battlecruiser. When they use the weapon a few more times, they believed that they could achieve capturing a powerful fleet. However, also aboard was Adria, who was protected against the effects of the weapon by a personal shield in her necklace. She was easily able to overcome the Jaffa and SG-1 who boarded the ship, and after having learned the position of the weapon, the only real threat to the Ori invasion, set course for Dakara, completely destroying the weapon and conquering the planet in the process.

After the loss of Dakara, the Free Jaffa Nation began to fracture into several warring factions, some of which blame the Tau'ri for the devastation of Dakara.

Overview

This device was built in a larger complex and the controls for the weapon lay in a small chamber hidden behind a wall with a complex puzzle acting as a combination lock.
