Mana Tree

The Mana Tree is the source of all the world's Mana and the origin of life. Reciprocates the emotional energy of the world, so if the world is pure the water running from its roots carries goodness out into the world, but if evil enters the world, then eventually it taints the water of life coming from the Mana Holyland and engages in a vicious downward spiral as the evil energy is recycled back into the world, until the Tree is destroyed.

The Tree is the physical incarnation of the Goddess of Mana, who took that form after defeating the God-Beasts with the Sword of Mana and imprisoning them in the Mana Stones. If the Tree is destroyed, Mana disappears from the world for a thousand years, but the Goddess of Mana can be reincarnated from the Gemma, the Seed of the Tree, who is a girl descended from the Goddess or a faerie born from the Tree.

The Tree and the Gemma used to be defended by the Gemma Knights, who saw the Tree reborn after its destruction at the hands of the Emperor Vandole, the wizard Julius, and the lich Thanatos; but their line is extinct now, and when the Dark Prince, the Masked Mage, and the Dragon Emperor threatened the Tree, the Faerie who would become the Gemma had to choose three ordinary youths to defend it.
