History
Olympia was a secret city established on Earth that was home to the race of immortals known as the Eternals. (Eternals v1 #5) The fall of Titanos led to a debate amongst the Eternals on which would become their new capital city. Celestia was secured as a religious site whilst the a conflict erupted between Olympia and Polaria as they attempted to secure temporal mastery as well as be named the new capital. There had been many attempts at bringing the two Eternal cities together with one of these being in Ikaris of Polaria relocating to Olympia. Such a move had mostly stopped open war from erupting between the the cities. (Eternals v5 #4)
When Julius Caesar burnt down the Library of Alexandria, the Eternals moved to relocate much of the texts within it to Olympia. (Fall of the Hulks: Alpha v1 #1)
Makkari came to witness the kidnapping of Sersi and Margo Damian whereupon he rushed to Olympia in order to warn Zuras that the Deviants after millennia had become active once again. (Eternals v1 #5)
Afterwards, a malfunction occurred in the machines that kept the city hidden from prying eyes in the world. Sprite saw an opportunity to rectify it and to ensure that humans never saw the activities of the Eternals. However, his tampering of the machine led to him accidentally sending the entirety of Olympia into the Negative Zone. Whilst drifting through space, they encountered the injured Blastaar where the Eternals helped in healing him only for him to attack them. He seemingly killed them but in reality his bio-energy blasts caused them to revert to their energy forms leaving Blastaar the only corporeal being within the ruined city. (Avengers v1 #310) With the Avengers, Sersi returned to Olympia only to be shocked to find only a crater waiting for her. Her senses later determined that it was no longer in Earth's dimension and was actually in the Negative Zone. Thor then used Mjolnir to open a portal to that realm so that the Avengers could investigate the disappearance of the Eternal city. (Avengers v1 #309) They then battled Blastaar and saw the Eternals be revived where they helped defeat the Baluurian as well as return Olympia back to Earth. (Avengers v1 #310)
In the modern age, the Intelligencia covertly broke into Olympia in order to pillage it of its preserved texts. They left behind replica's behind in order to ensure the Eternal's did not realize the theft. (Fall of the Hulks: Alpha v1 #1)
Zuras later called on the Eternals to gather at Olympia as they sought to determine their role in the world with the rise of super-powered beings. (Hulk v2 #49)
After the Eternals collective death, they were resurrected by the Machine once again and continued their functions on the planet. During this time, an unknown assailant was responsible for killing Zuras with the Eternals attempting to find the culprit. (Eternals v5 #1) It was later determined that the Machine had been sabotaged preventing it from resurrecting Zuras as a result. (Eternals v5 #3) It was later revealed that Thanos working along with an unknown collaborator came to co-opt the Machine where he used its teleportation system to attack various Eternals and create havoc in their society. (Eternals v5 #4)
Overview
In appearance, Olympia was an isolated city where the Eternals could spend their time developing their powers. (Eternals v1 #5) It was situated in Northern Greece where it was folded behind Mount Olympus in an echo-dimension. (Eternals v5 #1)
Locations in the city included:
- Temple of Command : building where an administrator dealt with the general affairs across the city. (Eternals v1 #5)
- High Tower : the seat of Eternal government and considered the most holy of holy sites for them. (Avengers v1 #309)
It was known that the inhabitants of Olympia had their own series of games that were akin to the Olympics that were played by the Eternals. (Thor v1 #287)
Travel to and from the city was achieved through a system of subdimensional threads interlacing the planet and managed by the Machine. (Eternals v5 #1)
