  • Real World: July 21. The Democratic Party selects Franklin D. Roosevelt as their candidate for U.S. President and Harry S. Truman as their candidate for Vice President.
  • Real World: August. Citizens of Mattoon, Illinois, begin reporting attacks by a mysterious "Mad Gasser". These continue through the next month.
  • Real World: October 5. The first German jet fighter is shot down by Canadian pilots over France.
