Abdul Alhazred (? - 738) was a poet and disciple of the wizard Yakthoob, a so-called "mad Arab" who became widely learned in the lore of the Great Old Ones. He visited the Nameless City and is said to have either worshipped or opposed Cthulhu or Yog-Sothoth. His most infamous creation was the Kitab Al-Azif, better known as the Necronomicon. Alhazred was said to have died in 738 when he was torn apart in the Damascus marketplace by an invisible monster, though others say that death was an illusion and that he suffered an even more hideous fate.

Comments

The name Abdul Alhazred is not accurate Arabic- the most common assumption for his true name is "Abd al-Azrad," which means "worshipper of the great devourer." Abdul Alhazred was actually a play-name used by H.P. Lovecraft in his childhood.
