Biography

Adrian Chase

D.A. Chase came to have a meeting with the Teen Titans during an incident involving the death of Brother Blood. (New Teen Titans v1 #23)

He and his family were in their uptown apartment when it was firebombed by unknown assailants. This saw his wife and children killed with Adrian being left in critical condition as an ambulance took him to the hospital. (New Teen Titans Annual v1 #2)

Eventually, Chase came to grow more conflicted over the violence he perpetuated and the harm he caused to those around him. In addition, he became increasingly mentally unstable where he alternated between bouts of enraged violence, paranoia and terrible remorse for his actions. He even came to resort to murdering innocent police officers that got in his way. It was his mounting guilt which culminated in Adrian contemplating the next course of his life where he ultimately decided to commit suicide. (Vigilante v1 #50) Chase left his considerable fortune to his former partner in crime-fighting, Black Thorn. (Checkmate v1 #2)

Overview

Personality and attributes

After his family was killed, he claimed that Adrian Chase was dead and all that remained was the Vigilante. (New Teen Titans Annual v1 #2) He once operated under the alias of Dean Baker as an alternate identity for himself. (Vigilante v1 #48)

He was said to had been a dedicated man who grew tired of criminals with money being able to beat the legal system. It was known that his no-nonsense methods were often criticised by his judicial peers. (New Teen Titans Annual v1 #2)

When his family were killed, he decided to take justice into his own hands and took on the identity of a masked vigilante. In this guise, he was not above killing criminals. (New Teen Titans Annual v1 #2)

For a time, his dual identity was a secret from the outside world until he was unmasked in front of a news crew. (Vigilante v1 #38)
