Biography
Auric Goldfinger was a billionaire businessman who was obsessed with gold. Hoping to increase the value of his own stock, Goldfinger made a deal with the Red Chinese whereby he would invade the gold depository at Fort Knox, in a scheme dubbed Operation Grandslam, and explode an atomic bomb supplied by Mr. Ling within it, irradiating the United States' gold supply thereby increasing the value of his own.
When Goldfinger first meets James Bond in Miami, he claims that he is agoraphobic; a ploy to allow him to cheat against Junius Du Pont at a game of two-handed Canasta, by having Jill Masterton watch their game from his room, and report back Du Pont's cards to him via a hidden earpiece, disguised as a hearing aid. However, Du Pont suspected Goldfinger of cheating, and recruited James Bond to discover how he was doing it. Bond figured out how Goldfinger was managing this cheating and blackmailed him by forcing him to admit his deception. Goldfinger was also an avid golfer, but is known at his club for being a smooth cheater. When Bond contrived to play a match with Goldfinger, he again cheated the cheater by switching Goldfinger's Dunlop One with a Dunlop Seven he had found while playing.
Goldfinger came to be the the owner of Enterprises Auric A.G. lcoated in Switzerland where it was the maker of metal furniture that was bought by many airlines including Air India. A few times during the year, Goldfinger drives his Rolls Royce "Silver Ghost" car from England to Enterprises Auric. Bond learned that Goldfinger makes repeated dead drops of gold bars along the way and that his car's bodywork is 18 carat (75%), solid white gold under the ploy that the added weight is armor plating. Once at Enterprises Auric, his car is stripped down, melted and made into furniture (seating) for an airline company that Enterprises Auric is heavily invested in. The plane(s) are then flown to India where the seats are melted down again into gold bars and sold for a much higher premium rate; 100 to 200% profit.
He was thwarted by James Bond, with some help from Goldfinger's pilot Pussy Galore, who alerted Felix Leiter to Goldfinger's plan. Although Operation Grandslam was thwarted and the bomb disarmed, Goldfinger, disguised as an army general, escaped. Later he snuck aboard the plane carrying Bond and Pussy, and attempted to kill them, however when a stray bullet pierced a window, the cabin depressurized and Goldfinger was sucked out of the plane to his death.

Goldfinger was also an avid golfer, but is known at his club for being a smooth cheater there, also.
Goldfinger fancied himself an expert pistol shot who never missed, and always shot his opponents through the right eye.
Auric was also a jeweller, a metallurgist, and a smuggler.
In addition to Henchmen, Goldfinger enlisted the help of several American gangsters. All of the gangsters that participated in Operation Grand Slam were subsequently shot when the operation failed, but Goldfinger enlisted Pussy Galore's help in exacting his revenge on Bond, which ultimately failed. One of the gangsters, Helmut Springer, backed out of the deal and did not participate i Goldfinger's Operation Grand Slam. Moments later, Mr. Springer had an "accident", falling down the staircase as he was leaving.
Goldfinger was the owner of Enterprises Auric A.G. in Switzerland, maker of metal furniture which is purchased by many airlines including Air India. Twice a year, Goldfinger drives his vintage Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost car from England to Enterprises Auric.
He came to be a member of SMERSH that was a Soviet counterintelligence agency where he became the treasurer of the organization.

- It was noted that the characters name was borrowed from Ian Fleming's neighbour in his Hampstead home, architect Ernő Goldfinger, and his character bore some resemblance.
