History

The Book of the Vishanti was a mystical tome that had ties with the Vishanti. The mysterious Vishanti had meant in part to be white magic counterweight to the black magic of the Darkhold. (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme v1 #14)

Long ago, priests of the Babylonian god Marduk called forth the Griffin as a mystical beast to guard the Book of the Vishanti. At some point, the figure that became the Ancient One battled the creature and defeated it thus becoming the possessor of the tome. (Strange Tales v1 #150)

Doctor Strange claimed that he held the only copy of the Book of the Vishanti. (Strange Tales v1 #116)

Shortly after become Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen Strange became burdened by the immense responsibilities of his new role and desired a loved one to aid him. With the Book of the Vishanti, he attempted to recite a passage to restore his deceased brother Victor Strange back to life. Unknown to him, he actually used the Vampiric Verses that brought his deceased brother back in later years as a vampire. (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme v1 #14)

After becoming the Sorcerer Supreme, Brother Voodoo was given the Book of the Vishanti alongside the Orb of Agamotto and Eye of Agamotto. When Nightmare took over the world, he sought to acquire the book but Daniel Drumm had taken it along with the other Sorcerer Supreme objects to Doctor Doom for safekeeping. It was later given back to Brother Voodoo who used it to find a means of defeating Nightmare and stop his plan to take over Earth. (Doctor Voodoo: Avenger of the Supernatural v1 #5)
