History

Origin

The Brotherhood of Evil were a team of supervillains brought together by the Brain. (Doom Patrol v1 #86) It was formed by the unnamed scientist captured and experimented on the mind of a captured ape, giving him genius-level intelligence. The scientist was dying, and needed his simian prodigy Monsieur Mallah to transplant his brain into a sophisticated tank connected to a computer network that would keep it functioning. The scientist, now calling himself the Brain, set himself on the task on conquering the world. To this end he and Mallah organized the Brotherhood of Evil. Brain corrupted Laura DeMille, making her Madame Rouge, and using her Parisian girls school as headquarters. (Doom Patrol v1 #87)

An American man by the name of Morden sought to join the ranks of the Brotherhood. To prove himself, he commandeered a titanic robot Rog which fought the Doom Patrol to a standstill. This impressed the Brain where Morden was tasked with completing his assignment in destroying the Patrol. (Doom Patrol v1 #86) Brain put together a daring scheme to rob a federal reserve bank with enlarged toy tanks, but he was once again defeated by the Doom Patrol. (Doom Patrol v1 #87)

The Brain and Mallah used an experimental procedure to give Madame Rouge super-powers, bringing out the schizophrenic woman's fully evil side. They sent her out to infiltrate and destroy the Doom Patrol, but she failed. (Doom Patrol v1 #90)

The Brotherhood later tricked Robotman into believing that he could have his brain put into a cloned body. Instead, they put his brain in the Brain's glass jar and put the Brain inside Robotman's body. In this form it was easy enough for the Brain to surprise the rest of the Doom Patrol, and temporarily put Elasti-Girl and Negative Man out of commission. The Brain then challenged the Chief to a showdown, but by this time the entire Doom Patrol was back in action. The battle swung in the Doom Patrol's favor, so the Brotherhood fled. (Doom Patrol v1 #93)

The Brotherhood began trading in the creation of cloned Metahuman subjects that were sold on the black market. (Outsiders v3 #38)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. The Brotherhood of Evil

The Brain came to learn of the valuable Blue Beetle Scarab being situated in El Paso, Texas and dispatched his Brotherhood to acquire the relic. (Blue Beetle v9 #1) The operatives failed when they superhuman agents of the local crime lord La Dama arrived with the Scarab bonding with a bystander turning him into the Blue Beetle. For their failure, Silverback decided to lead the renewed effort at reacquiring the relic. They arrived in the town and tracked their quarry where they overwhelmed him in numbers but the Blue Beetle unleashed a neural scrambler on his enemies. This led to Silverback's human mind being trapped within his gorilla mechanical body as he was abandoned by his comrades. (Blue Beetle v9 #4)
