A blanket term for phenomena claimed to be observed by some people which falls outside the normal range of human science. Most modern research into the paranormal is deemed pseudoscientific- that is, scientifically flawed or false- and is widely disregarded by the mainstream scientific establishment. Fields of paranormal study include parapsychology (study of psychic phenomena, usually ghosts and psychic powers), cryptozoology (study of unusual animals, such as Bigfoot or the various lake monsters), and ufology (study of UFOs and UFO-related phenomena such as crop circles).
