Daisy Johnson was the illegitimate daughter of Calvin Zabo who was the supervillain known as Mister Hyde with one report stating that her mother was named Jennifer Johnson. (Secret War: From the Files of Nick Fury v1 #1) However, in reality, her mother was one of the Inhumans making her a member of that hidden race. (S.H.I.E.L.D v3 #7) After her birth, she was immediately given up for adoption and taken in by Gregory and Janet Sutter when she was seven months old where she was given the name Cory Sutter. (Secret War: From the Files of Nick Fury v1 #1)

Her own life began to go downhill as despite her intelligence she did not apply herself as she began failing out of school whilst engaging in shoplifting. (Secret War: From the Files of Nick Fury v1 #1)

Secret Warriors

She was brought back into S.H.I.E.L.D. at the request of Captain America during the encounter with the Collective. (New Avengers v1 #18)

Whilst on mandatory retirement, she was approached by a disguised Nick Fury who sought to recruit her again. He was operating in the shadows and had discovered a hidden threat that was lurking in the world which was infiltrating various super-powered beings. To combat them, he decided to assemble a team of unknown enhanced individuals that were the children of people with superpowers to be his Caterpillars. With this knowledge, Daisy was dispatched in finding the various people and bringing them together. They were brought before Nick Fury at his safehouse where he began to prepare them for the coming threat. (Mighty Avengers v1 #13)

She later went to get Alexander Aaron where she sought to secretly take him to Fury Safe House 9 for further training. Once there, Nick Fury told the team to read more files on the various enemies in the world. Unknown to Daisy, she had been followed by Alexander's father namely Ares who broke into the safe house. However, there was no further fighting as the Olympian war god simply had a talk with Nick Fury and after learning that this was the path chosen by his son he decided to depart. Fury then had the Secret Warriors evacuate the safe house and told Johnson that in the future she should watch for anyone secretly following her. (Dark Avengers v1 #9)

During Fear Itself, she was deployed into the field by Fury to track down Sin who was believed to be hiding at an old castle in Sweden that belonged to the Red Skull. Commander Steve Rogers and his allies were there in the hope of capturing her but the intelligence was revealed to be part of an ambush. Quake arrived on the scene where she used her powers to collapse the castle in order to prevent the enemy from pursuing Rogers. (Avengers v4 #16) In the aftermath, she was asked by Captain America to investigate the breakout at the Raft that saw Norman Osborn being taken away by H.A.M.M.E.R. loyalists. Daisy then had a meeting with the Raft's warden John Walker along with other prison personnel who participated in Osborn's escape. She concluded that H.A.M.M.E.R. members were spread everywhere with many people channelling their anger in the belief that Osborn would bring about change. Johnson was later offered a spot on the Avengers by Captain America when he revealed the new membership of the team to the public. (Avengers v4 #19) When H.A.M.M.E.R. struck, the Avengers were mostly captured with Johnson tracking down operatives in order to find where they were being held. (Avengers v4 #22) This saw her finding their base where she used her powers to deal heavy damage to the facility giving her the distraction she needed to free her team mates starting with Jessica Drew. (Avengers v4 #23)
