History
S.H.I.E.L.D. was moving its resources into a secret weapons program that was a new prototype Deathlok cyborg that consisted of parts harvested from the android Machine Man. When the Red Skull captured the Helicarrier, he learnt of the project but had little use for it though he was interested in the cyborgs AI control interface which he wanted to use in his plot to take over the world. To prevent this plan, Douglock reactivated the Deathlok and sought to use the cyborg assassin to terminate himself as he was under the control of the Skull and factored in his plot for world conquest. Kitty Pryde managed to stop the assassin with the X-Men freeing the crew and Douglock who released Deathlok where he hoped the cyborg would find freedom. (X-Men Annual v2 1999)
During the Dark Reign, a scientist working for H.A.M.M.E.R. offered the use of Project: Deathlok cyborgs using repurposed dead bodies on a mission to recover the Weapon Plus laboratory known as the World. They faced opposition from the facility’s creations as the labs now sentient brain sought to defend itself from intruders. Around this time, Noh-Varr and Wolverine worked together to prevent the World from falling into the hands of Norman Osborn. They were joined by Fantomex with the three convincing the World that they were there to protect it. Afterwards, the three worked to defeat the Deathlok cyborgs leading to the project being shelved by Osborn. (Dark Reign: The List – Wolverine v1 #1)
From an alternate reality, Project: Infinity dispatched its Deathlok agents that consisted of cybernetically converted superhumans from a parallel Earth where they sought the protection of Infinity. This led to them targeting Fantomex for elimination where they attacked his home in the French Alps with them killing Mother whilst claiming the World. Fantomex barely managed to survive and was wounded when he encountered Deathlok Prime. (Uncanny X-Force v1 #5) Wolverine and X-Force later joined him were they were informed of the threat of Weapon Infinity that consisted of all Deathloks seeded throughout timelines in order to bring a future where they converted super-beings into their form in an effort to control them. To accomplish this, they needed the World but this strain of AIs were eliminated when the Father inside the facility was killed by Deadpool due to the assistance offered by Deathlok Prime. Overview
It was said that all Deathloks consisted of a collective consciousness that formed part of Weapon: Infinity though certain units could operate as rogue troopers and work separately from their kind. (Uncanny X-Force v1 #7)

- The first Deathlok was created by Doug Moench and Rich Buckler where he made his first appearance in Astonishing Tales v1 #25 (August, 1974).
Alternate Versions
- In Uncanny X-Force v1 #6 (2011), an alternate future timeline was shown that was designated Earth-11045. On this Earth, superhumans had become too powerful leading to them being judge, jury and executioner with the public supporting a program to use the Deathloks for law enforcement. Father then used the World to instigate Operation Deathlok whose mission was to kill, reanimate and convert all superhumans into Deathlok troopers with the first wave killing heroes and villains that were sent for acclimation to become dead cybernetic warriors. It was said that they had successfully brought a utopia to their world after converting the superhumans into a controllable police force with no free will. However, the threat of Apocalypse began to undo their control leading to this Deathlok strain being seeded across all timelines and dimensions as they sought to bring about their world.
- In House of M v1 (2015), the alternate reality where the House of Magnus took over the world on Battleworld whereupon the humans had Death Locket's father turn fallen human soldiers into Deathloks as part of Operation Deathlok. It was intended that these cyborgs be deployed against Magnus's Mutant forces but they were not completed and the laboratory making them was attacked. Surviving units were placed in a hidden bunker where Death Locket's father hoped to use them in the next war between Mutants and Humans but he was later captured and sent to a re-education center though his daughter Death Locket remained in hiding at the facility.
- In Old Man Hawkeye (2018), Deathlok technology was shown on an alternate Earth that was designated as Earth-807128. Red Skull provided them to Bullseye to allow him to continue to operate as a law enforcing marshal though it was said by his science division that the implants would drive him insane.

- In Marvel Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D. the character of Mike Peterson ultimately becomes Deathlok after being critically wounded by the Centipede program. After the mid-season cliffhanger, he was shown to be still alive where he had an implant placed within his eye allowing HYDRA to control him by threatening to kill his son. He later gets prosthetic legs added onto his body and weaponry placed on him where he was deployed as the personal assassin and enforcer for John Garrett.
- In Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Deathlok makes an appearance in the episode titled "Deathlok" where he was voiced by actor Mark Hildreth. He was shown as being a human survivor from a timeline where the Skrulls had destroyed mankind and colonized Earth. After being transformed into cyborg, Deathlok was transported back in time with the express mission of stopping the Skrulls and was briefed on downloads of videos of Rick Jones made when he was with the Hulk. Deathlok arrived at the town where the incident was said to occur where he targeted a seemingly normal human woman but was stopped by the Hulk and his allies. It was later revealed that the human woman was in fact the Super-Skrull and that the entire town's inhabitants were similarly Skrull agents. He allies with the Hulk's when he reveals his mission and the group enters into the Skrull ship. At that point, he activated his self-destruct to destroy the alien vessel but this was removed by She-Hulk to destroy the Skrull ship. Afterwards, a new core was made by Iron Man and placed in Deathlok thus allowing him to continue to function where he joined S.M.A.S.H. as he could not return to his own timeline.
Video games
- In Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage, Deathlok provides a supporting role where he can assist either Spider-Man or Carnage leading to him dropping into the center of the screen to fire guns in both directions that hits all enemies.
