Destiny is a female comic character who features in Marvel Comics.

Biography

Irene Adler was a female Mutant who was born several centuries ago. She was noted to had been born into privilege where she lived a normal life until she was 13 when her power began to manifest allowing her to see events in the future along with various permutations of it. Though initially overwhelmed by the knowledge, she managed to gain control of it and started to write down her visions in a series of books over the course of 13 months. However, the events detailed also included possible futures with her not knowing which event was the true timeline. Furthermore, her mutations had caused her to become physically blind as a result. Adler sought to find the true future and enlisted the aid of a consulting detective named Raven Darkholme to help her in her quest. (X-Treme X-Men v1 #2)

At some point, she was known to had children and she eventually became a great-grandmother to Ruth Aldine though her great-granddaughter was unaware of her family history. (X-Men: Legacy v1 #233)

Powers and abilities

As a result of her mutations, she could witness the future but it meant that she had become physically blind in the process. (X-Treme X-Men v1 #1)

As a precognitive, if she was close to another person with her abilities then they cancelled each other out preventing them from seeing the future. (X-Men: Legacy v1 #233)

Irene came to detail her visions in a series of books she wrote that were called Destiny's Diaries. It was also known as the Libris Veritatus or the Books of Truth that were invaluable for their details on future events. Much of the diaries entries were written in a language in a code and pictograms as well as language unknown to her. (X-Treme X-Men v1 #2)

  • Destiny was created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne where she made her first appearance in Uncanny X-Men v1 #141 (January, 1981).
