Biography

Origin

Destny in X-Factor v1 #115.

Irene Adler was a female Mutant who was born several centuries ago in Austria. She was noted to had been born into privilege where she lived a normal life until she was 13 when her power began to manifest allowing her to see events in the future along with various permutations of it. Though initially overwhelmed by the knowledge, she managed to gain control of it and started to write down her visions in a series of books over the course of 13 months. However, the events detailed also included possible futures with her not knowing which event was the true timeline. Furthermore, her mutations had caused her to become physically blind as a result. Adler sought to find the true future and enlisted the aid of a consulting detective named Raven Darkholme to help her in her quest. (X-Treme X-Men v1 #1)

At some point, she was known to had children and she eventually became a great-grandmother to Ruth Aldine though her great-granddaughter was unaware of her family history. (X-Men: Legacy v1 #233)

In 1936, she and Mystique who was under the guise of a man named Mr. Raven were in Scotland alongside Logan when this era was visited by a time displaced Kitty Pryde. Pryde looked to use this as an opportunity to kill Adolf Hitler to prevent the destruction of six million Jews during World War II. Adler would state that they would not interfere in Kitty's decision but warned that Hitler's death would create a vacuum in the timeline that would be impossible to predict on what would come to replace it. (X-Men: True Friends v1 #3)

Later on, Irene came to part ways with Raven and travelled to America where she came to join the Black Womb Project as an archivist. The government project was tasked with research on Mutants with it headed by Director Amanda Mueller and was based in Alamogordo, New Mexico. (X-Men Forever v1 #4)

Irene came to go on her own again where she came to be involved with a man who got her pregnant and led to her giving birth to a daughter named Justine. (X-Factor v1 #135)

Afterwards, she came to fear that her powers would be misused by others leading to her and Raven deciding to lay low by joining the Tiboldt Carnival of Wonder where Irene herself operated as a fortune teller named Madame Destiny. During this time, her tent was visited by a young child named James Proudstar where she saw that his older brother would die in the future. She decided not to reveal this to the child who believed the fortune teller to be a fraud. Irene then revealed her vision to Raven who decided that they were meant for bigger things in life and that it was time to leave the carnival. (X-Force v1 #-1)

She came to persuade Mystique that the only place that could help Rogue control her powers was with Professor X and the X-Men. This was not an easy decision to make but ultimately Irene came to win the argument. (X-Treme X-Men v1 #1)

Brotherhood

Mystique and her later formed the second incarnation of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants where they operated as ideologically motivated terrorists. Their target was U.S. Senator Robert Kelly who she had intended to assassinate during a meeting of the Senate that was discussing the emergence of Mutants in the world. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #141)

Whilst on a mission with Freedom Force, the team travelled to Muir Island where they fought the Reavers. In this time, Destiny was confronted by Legion who was being influenced by the Shadow King who proceeded to murder her. In the aftermath, Mystique came to take her deceased love's body away with her after coming to mourn her death. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #255)

Legacy

Storm came to be convinced that the Destiny Diaries were too dangerous to be left out in the world. Thus, she came to assemble her own team of X-Men to find and acquire the books. This led to the start of a global search for the 13 volume set that had been written by Destiny. (X-Men v2 #109)

Selene came to learn about Destiny through Sebastian Shaw and looked to make use of her abilities. Thus, she had Caliban find her remains that were gathered whereupon a combination of magic and the Techno-Organic Virus was used to revive her. (X-Force v3 #19)

One of her diaries was discovered by Moira MacTaggert allowing for Irene's soul to merge with her body for a time. During the Chaos War, Amatsu-Mikaboshi became the Chaos King and sought to bring an end to existence. The chaos caused resulted in several deceased X-Men being brought back to life temporarily with Destiny being among them though she was in the body of Moira MacTaggert. (Chaos War: X-Men v1 #2)

House of X

Mystique then acted on her own to bring about Destiny's revival where she came to take the form of Magneto in order to travel to Island M. Whilst there, she came to gain access to one of the Cradles where she downloaded a copy of Irene's mind. In that guise, she then approached the Five where as Xavier she claimed that this was a priority resurrection. Once reborn, Destiny was taken to safety where Mystique began to nurse her love back to health. In addition, Mystique was manipulating events to ensure that Destiny would be appointed onto the Quiet Council of Krakoa. Upon regaining her strength, Destiny was then nominated by Mystique to join the Council where Raven's actions led to them gaining support from the other members leading to Irene joining the ruling body of Krakoa. (Inferno v2 #2)

Destiny attended a meeting of the Quiet Council when Magneto decided to step down from their body. This led to candidates interviewed to see which would replace him with this ultimately leading to Selene offering herself for the position. However, Hope Summers came to also offer herself for the position with this triggering a vote amongst the Council. (Immortal X-Men v1 #1)
