During his time as one of the Flying Graysons, he met and befriended a clown by the name of Waldo Simpson with him being a close friend of the family to the point that he was like a godfather. (Batman v1 #337)

His unscrupulous uncle George Grayson along with his wife Clara Grayson returned in his life when they claimed that Bruce Wayne was an unfit guardian. As a result, Wayne lost custody of Dick who fell under the care of his uncle and aunt.
