Biography

Diva (Japanese: ディーヴァ, Hepburn: Dīva?) was a female queen Chiropteran and the younger twin sister of Saya. The pair were born to a former Chiropteran queen where they were cocoons that remained in the body of a mummified creature. For an unknown length of time, the pair remained unhatched from the cocoons until 1833 when Joel Goldschmidt uncovered the mummy. The cocoons reacted to blood leading to them hatching as seemingly human offspring. Joel took the two girls with him whete he began to conduct an experiment on them that saw the twin sisters separated. Saya was raised as Joel's own daughter with her being unaware of her origin or even the existence of her sister. Diva in contrast was locked away in a tower where she was given no name and just the most basic necessities by Joel's assistant Amshel. For 50 years, Diva remained caged and was given rags to keep her warm as she became the subject of study where in that time Amshel served as her caretaker who wanted to learn more about the Chiropteran species. One day in 1863, she was singing which drew the voice of her twin sister who was drawn by Diva's amazing singing talent and given the name Diva. In the following years, Saya made several attempts to see her again where on one of those occasions she told her twin sister that she wished to be free from the cage and the tower. In 1883, on Joel Goldsmith's birthday she gained her wish when Saya found the key from her adoptive fathers office which she used to unlock Diva's cell thus freeing her. Saya had wanted Diva to sing a song for Joel and went o get his birthday gift with Hagi. However, Diva proceeded to massacre the people at the party in retribution for all the years of torment and isolation she had suffered with this culminating in her murdering Joel whose blood she drank. Saya returned just to see these acts caused by Diva where she vowed revenge to exterminate her as well as all Chiropterans. At some point after being freed, it was known that she came to turn Amshel into her Chevalier where he began to serve her.

In 1917, Diva awoke from her hibernation period which was witnessed by Amshel and a young doctor named Solomon Goldsmith. Amshel gave Diva some of his blood before he stabbed and killed Solomon that led to his death. By that time Solomon became the third known Chevalier, according to James Ironside. Later that year, Amshel had made Solomon bring Karl Fei-Ong to meet Diva so that he may have a Chevalier to experiment on for the Delta Project. Diva agreed to make him her Chevalier and, against his will, she drank his blood and turned him. Around 1918, Diva assumed the identity of the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna in Russia. What happened to the real Anastasia in the process was not touched upon in the series, however, she is presumably killed to accommodate Diva. Diva's second Chevalier, Grigori, disguised himself as a young girl named Sonya and attacked Saya and Hagi before he is killed. In the meantime, Diva fled with Amshel. In 1943, Diva resides in Berlin, Germany. She is known to have transformed Martin Bormann, head of the Nazi Party Chancellery, and Adolf Hitler's private secretary into her Chevalier during this time. She also impersonated Hitler's wife Eva Braun much like Anastasia of the Romanov Dynasty. In 1945, she transformed James Ironside, a lieutenant colonel of the U.S. military into her final chevalier. Martin was later executed by Solomon on Amshel's orders for unspecified reasons. During the Vietnam War, when Saya was forced to wake up from her hibernation by Hagi's blood, Diva's voice was clearly heard in the background and was clearly proven when Saya followed the song. Diva, however, did not appear any further. In 2005, Diva woke up in Vietnam where she has been hibernating inside a container within the Lycee grounds. She was later taken to Paris in Solomon's mansion after the Red Shield's group destroyed their stray. By that time, she had five living Chevaliers who led the Cinq Flèches Group.

After being taken to the Zoo by Amshel, Diva returned back to the tower and sang once more. This unknowingly made Riku follow the singing and he confused Diva for Saya. Hungry, she drank most of his blood before Saya arrived and witnessed the scene. They broke into a fight, however, Saya was no match for Diva's savage strength because of her lack of blood. The interventions of Solomon and the Red Shield drew a temporary pause, which led to Diva not wanting to play anymore. As she later left with Solomon, Saya was begged by Kai to save Riku by giving him her blood, resulting in Saya turning Riku into a Chevalier in order to save his life. Riku's turning made Diva increasingly interested in him before she later infiltrated the Red Shield's ship with Karl to find him. Following his heartbeat, Diva found him despite Kai's efforts to hide his little brother. After beating down Kai, Diva stripped and raped Riku before killing him afterwards by giving him her blood, which crystallized him. Diva later became an opera singer in New York, sponsored by the Cinq Flèches, whom distributed the Delta 67, a substance that turns humans into Chiropterans across various populations of the world, the sound of Diva's song triggers their change. During that time, Julia discovered that, after Diva rapes Riku, Diva became pregnant with twin girls, the next generation of Queens. She didn't give birth for over a year until Amshel removed the cocoons from her womb through surgery. Diva showed great affection and care for her babies by caressing their cocoons and singing to them. At the Metropolitan Opera House, Diva was set to perform a live broadcast that would later on cause a large portion of the world's population to turn into Chiropterans. The Red Shield and Saya manage to stop the broadcast, however, they couldn't get to Diva in time to stop her live performance.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Diva greatly resembled her twin sister Saya Otonashi with the exception that she had a fairer skin tone shade and striking blue eyes. She had long black hair that was kept to her waist level with her bangs swept on the right side. Typically, she wore simply yet elegant dress that often had the colours blue, white and beige.

On the surface, Diva was shown to be essentially a child both in personality and actions. However, this hid a psychopathic streak of selfishness where she was capable of many violent acts. She had a highly sadistic nature where she killed for pleasure rather than for duty.

In her youth, she was the subject of human experiments where she was locked away in the tower and suffered numerous tests. This caused her to hate humans on account on how they had treated her.

Despite her actions, it was shown that Diva's deepest desire was having a family of her own.

Powers and abilities

As a Chiropteran Queen, Diva came to possess a number of superhuman abilities with her having enhanced strength, speed, agility and endurance.

Her voice was mesmerizing voice and had the power to control, awakens and attracts Chiropterans.
