Biography

Cornelius Evazan was a male human who lived a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. He came to be an insane human medical practitioner who boasted having the death sentence in twelve systems.

The pair later travelled to the world of Jedha to escape their pursuers. In the busy streets of Jedha City, the pair bumped into the Rebel Alliance operatives Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor. Evazan, with Baba by his side, warned them to watch themselves. Andor, though, assured the doctor and is partner that he and Erso would be careful and they parted ways.

Dr. Evazan along with Ponda Baba then went to the desert world of Tatooine where they visited the Mos Eisley canteen. He tried to pick a fight with Luke Skywalker while in the Mos Eisley Cantina. Obi-Wan Kenobi intervened however and attempted to buy Evazan a drink, but the Doctor and his friend Ponda Baba pulled blasters on the well-intentioned Jedi. Obi-Wan responded by igniting his lightsaber and slashing Evazan across the torso with it.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Evazan was a human male with a heavily scarred face. After committing a rash of crimes on Milvayne, Evazan was nicknamed the Mutilator of Milvayne.

Evazan enjoyed the presence of corpses, seeing them as materials for experimentation. In his annotations of the Smuggler's Guide, he expressed joy at the mentions of dead bodies in various accounts, writing a negative exclamation when reading in one account that some bloody bones had been lost into the void of space. He praised his peeling of Prima Wessex's skin to fool scanners as a clever decision. After massacring the information brokers on Obroa-skai, the doctor was excited about the opportunities that came from the different alien bodies around him. He even tried to create new creatures built from the parts of others, calling himself a proud parent when one was successful.

Evazan and Ponda Baba enjoyed brawling and gunning down defenseless beings.

He was shown to boast that he faced a death sentence in 12 systems.

Powers and abilities

Evazan had once been a promising surgeon, but became notorious for conducting cruel medical experiments.

Notes

  • Dr. Evazan was created by George Lucas where he was portrayed by actor Alfie Curtis and featured in the setting of the Star Wars universe.
  • In the original script for A New Hope, Dr. Evazan was identified as simply being "a grubby human." In the radio dramatization of the film he was given the name "Roofoo." It wasn't until 1989 when West End Games' Star Wars guide gave him the name "Dr. Evazan" and his backstory as a mad doctor. Retconning on the part of various authors explained that Roofoo was one of Evazan's aliases.

Alternate Versions

  • In Star Wars Legends, Dr. Evazan appeared with a different backstory in the former Star Wars Expanded Universe. Also known as Dr. Death and simply the Doctor, Dr. Evazan's face was horribly scarred by a shot from bounty hunter Jodo Kast's blaster. After the encounter with Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan in the cantina, Evazan and Ponda Baba fled Tatooine. Evazan tried to replace Baba's severed arm with a cybernetic one but the procedure failed. Later, a botched mind transfer experiment resulted in Baba's death. Much later, Boba Fett tailed Evazan to the planet Necropolis where the Doctor was experimenting with giving life to the dead. Here, Evazan's experiments were stopped by Zak and Tash Arranda and their Uncle Hoole. Evazan was killed but injected himself with his life-giving formula he used to create zombies. Later, when the antidote to the formula was used to destroy Evazan's undead army, the Doctor died as well, this time for good.
