Dr. Drury

Dr. Peter Drury was a reclusive scientist who invented an invisibility formula, presumably in research independently from that of the various members of the Griffin family. He only experimented on animals, including his faithful dog Brutus, who he made invisible to be his guardian. When Robert Griffin (unrelated to the more famous Griffins, presumably), an insane man and a fugitive from justice, turned up at his house, Drury realized he would make a fine test subject to see if he could turn a human being invisible.

Griffin meanwhile, wanting revenge against Sir Jasper and Lady Irene Herrick for imagined wrongdoings, saw this as the perfect way of getting his revenge and so he gladly submitted himself as Drury's guinea pig. Although the experiment was a success and Drury realized this would make him famous, Griffin was uncooperative when Drury asked him to stay on as proof of his success for reporters. The now-invisible Griffin attacked Drury and then ran away.

While Griffin was gone, Drury experimented further, discovering that blood transfusions offered temporary relief from invisbility. He tested the process on Brutus, but at the cost of another dog's life as he discovered that the process required all of the other subject's blood, making the process fatal to the blood donor. When Griffin returned to be made visible again, he suggested to Drury that they use Mark Foster, his rival for the affections of Julie Herrick. Drury refused, unwilling to murder another human being, and tried to alert the police. He failed and Griffin knocked him out and used Drury's blood for the scientist's own transfusion process, killing him. His death would eventually be avenged by his loyal dog, Brutus.
