Biography

Origin

Meeting her half-brother in Green Arrow: Broken.

Emiko Queen was a human woman born in the modern age as the daughter of Robert Queen and Shado thus making her the younger half-sister of Oliver Queen. (Green Arrow v5 #22)

Green Arrow

Emiko watched as Komodo killed Green Arrow's associate Jax Jackson, and later reported that their other hostage Naomi Singh had managed to locate where Oliver Queen was currently hiding. (Green Arrow v5 #18) She later meets Green Arrow when she decides to help protect her father. (Green Arrow v5 #19) Later, after Green Arrow rescues Shado from Count Vertigo, she confirms to him that Emiko is her daughter with his father Robert. (Green Arrow v5 #22) Upon hearing that Shado is accompanying Green Arrow, she asked Komodo if it was true that her mother is still alive and is upset for having been lied to, but he tricks her into thinking that Green Arrow and Shado are only coming to take her away from him. (Green Arrow v5 #29) Later, after Robert Queen was injured during their pursuit of them, Emiko begins to realize the truth that she is actually his daughter, something which Shado confirms, to which an angry Emiko exacts her vengeance by killing Komodo. Upon rejecting his position to become the head of the Outsiders Arrow Clan, Oliver offers that he'll take Emiko away from all of this for a fresh start, which Shado agrees as it is her choice to make. (Green Arrow v5 #31) Emiko decides to follow her brother back to Seattle as she recognizes that, unlike the rest, her brother had never lied to her. (Green Arrow v5 #32) She later came to Seattle to assist her brother against the crime lord Ricardo Diaz, Jr. where she was attempting to take the identity of Green Arrow as her new superhero identity despite Oliver's protests. Emiko stated that she was done being with the Outsiders and wanted to be Oliver's apprentice. She was present when Oliver was attacked by the Longbow Hunters where Emiko introduced herself as the Green Arrow. (Green Arrow v5 #33)

Teen Titans

Emiko was on the trail of the supervillain Onomatopoeia who was targeting her and intending to eliminate her with him creating a large tidal wave to draw her out in the open. During this time, she was approached by Robin Damian Wayne who wanted to recruit her for the Teen Titans with her refusing but getting their aid to stop the disaster hitting Star City. She thanked Damian and the Titans for their aid but stated that she would not join them at this point. (Teen Titans v6 #14)

She was approached by Damian Wayne about joining his new incarnation of the Teen Titans with Emiko refusing at first but she accepted when Robin offered to help her find the mysterious Other. (Teen Titans v6 #22)

She was with Oliver as they practiced their archery skills when they were taken by the new Crimson Avenger Jill Carlyle to help the Seven Soldiers of Victory. It was then she learnt that her brother Oliver Queen and Roy Harper were once displaced into the past during the early years of the mystery men. In that time, they operated as vigilantes where they had joined the Seven Soldiers and worked with them fighting a number of threats. This was until their final adventure where they were to stop a ship containing a time machine made by Per Degaton threatened to crash onto a crowded beach which would have killed many innocent bystanders. They managed to stop it but the original Crimson Avenger Lee Travis seemingly perished where in the resultant explosion sent Green Arrow and Speedy back to their native era. They then joined the gathered Seven Soldiers as they sought to stop the Clock King who had gone back in time to change history with the heroes looking to save Lee Travis. During this time, Emiko and Courtney Whitmore were left behind but the two disobeyed the older Seven Soldiers by following them into the past. (Stargirl Spring Break Special v1 #1)

Powers and abilities

Notes

  • Emiko Queen was created by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino where she made her first appearance in Green Arrow v5 #18 (May, 2013).
  • According to Teen Titans Annual v6 #1 (2019), the word Emiko translated to mean Superior.

Alternate Versions

  • In The New 52: Futures End v1 #10 (2014), an alternate version of Emiko Queen appeared in the possible future timeline of the Future's End within the Multiverse. Five years after being introduced to her half-brother, Emiko took up the mantle of Green Arrow, and fought crime alongside Dart Naomi Singh in Seattle. After a scuffle with the Vertigo Cult, she returned to their base of operations to find said brother, Oliver Queen, bleeding out. Though Oliver refused to explain everything that had happened to him, he said that the entirety of the Queen legacy rested upon Emiko's shoulders now, as he had stumbled on something big, and was not sure if he could survive it. Therefore, in case something did happen to him, he gave Emiko a small green pyramid, told her to ensure that Lois Lane received it, as only she would know what to do with it. Emiko promised, and he took his leave, warning them not to follow, a demand that Emiko, in her arrogance, refused to follow (as he was well aware). Within 24 hours, she had followed him to Prague, at the meeting place of the Outsiders, in time to protect her half-brother from a fight with her mother, Shado. After a brief argument between mother and daughter over the latter's choice to join Team Arrow rather than the Outsiders, Oliver stepped in to stop it, and the remaining Outsiders arrived. Against Emiko's desire, she had to watch as Oliver decided to join the Outsiders so as to protect his identity in an elaborate scheme to fake his own death. Upon its success, Emiko was not forced to join the Outsiders, but Oliver did keep his word as the head of the Arrow Clan, and told her to gather more muscle for his coming battles with Cadmus while he raised a little hell as a "ghost".

Television

  • In Arrow, Emiko Queen appeared in the live-action television series seventh season set in the Arrowverse where she was portrayed by actress Sea Shimooka. Unlike her comic counterpart, this version was a young adult who was the daughter of Robert Queen and a woman of Japanese descent named Kazumi Adachi. She was the result of an affair between Robert Queen and Kazumi making Emiko the paternal half-sister of Oliver Queen. In pursuit of this, she initially operates as the Green Arrow and assists Team Arrow in protecting Star City while Oliver is imprisoned before her true allegiances and goals are exposed. After failing to destroy Star City, the Ninth Circle's council betrays her and she is mortally wounded. Before she dies, she reconciles with Oliver. After Oliver sacrifices himself to save the multiverse and due to changes made to it during the events of the crossover, "Crisis on Infinite Earths", Emiko was resurrected off-screen as of the series finale "Fadeout", during which she attends Oliver's funeral and is welcomed into the Queen family
