Biography

He was the chief scientist in S.H.I.E.L.D.s Kobik Program that utilized fragments of Cosmic Cubes to alter reality. (Avengers Standoff: Assault On Pleasant Hill Alpha v1 #1)

Kobik later altered his entire history and made him into a Hydra agent who was devoted to the Red Skull. After witnessing this act, the Skull had Selvig propose the Pleasant Hill initiative to Director Maria Hill. (Captain America: Steve Rogers v1 #2)

  • In Avengers Standoff: Welcome to Pleasant Hill v1 #1 (2016), the character was introduced into the Earth-616 universe as a doctor at Pleasant Hill.

  • In Thor, the character was introduced for the first time in the shared continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe where he was portrayed by actor Stellan Skarsgard. Erik Selvig was a male human of Scandinavian origin who as a child grew up on stories about Norse myth of the gods of Asgard. By adulthood, he came s professor of Theoretical Astrophysics at Culver University. During this time, he looked into the nature of Gamma Radiation and met Bruce Banner who was a victim of one such accident involving it. At some point, this, he encountered S.H.I.E.L.D. when they confiscated some documents that belonged to a friend. At school, he met both Jane Foster and her father with him being a close friend of their family. He later travelled with Jane Foster and Darcy Lewis where they studied thermonuclear astrophysics.
