Origin

The Forgotten One

He had roamed the world where he was known to had meddled in the affairs of humanity with him shaking it in order to improve their their lives. This saw him topple the palaces of tyrants and slew the beasts that they could not conquer. (Eternals v1 #13)

Zuras was noted to had made an edict that banished the Forgotten One for his actions and pride. (Eternals v1 #13)

Later on, he came to operate from a subdimensional pocket observing events on Earth where he witnessed Sersi in a meeting with Tony Stark where she seemingly claimed that she intended to kill the human race and leave the remains for Thanos. This drew out the Forgotten One who attacked her but this turned out to had been bait for an ambush with his fellow Eternals attacking him. During the fight with Ikaris, the Forgotten One was captured and then interrogated about recent sabotage of the Machine. (Eternals v5 #5)

Overview

Personality and attributes

It was noted that he operated under a variety of aliases. (Eternals v5 #5) Human were said to had known him by many names. (Eternals v1 #13)

For a time, he came to believe that the need for a hero had long past by the modern age on Earth. (Eternals v1 #13)

He was noted for his broad definition of the Second Principle that governed his kind which was to protect the Machine. This meant that he believed that humans were vital to the Machine's operations and prioritised them over Eternal welfare. As such, he was known among his people for being a human-centric radical. (Eternals v5 #5)

The Forgotten One believed that he had to step into the role of being something that other were afraid of and that he acted out to bring about justice. He compared his actions to those of Robin Hood though others of his kind instead saw him as being similar to the Punisher. (Eternals v5 #5)

It was said that it was due to his pride and need to meddle in human affairs led to his banishment by Zuras. (Eternals v1 #13)

Powers and abilities

He was the head of a group of rogue Eternals called the Forgotten that were relatively a new development in their society. They removed themselves from the Uni-Mind and acted as a deterrent to Eternal abuse of humanity. (Eternals v5 #5)

The Forgotten One was privy to certain secrets about the Machine such as being able to hide in some of the subdimensional threads that circled the Earth. (Eternals v5 #5)

  • The Forgotten One was created by Jack Kirby where he made his first appearance in Eternals v1 #13 (July, 1977).
  • In a newsletter with writer Kieron Gillen, he approached the character as, "What can I say safely? Well, as the cover says, this is the introduction of Gilgamesh (aka The Forgotten One) and the introduction of our take on him. My core image was as if a vigilante character like Batman was on a cosmic scale, stepping out of the shadows of an alleyway between dimensions, grabbing someone like Annihilus around the neck then holding him over a black holeā€¦"
