Biography

Origin

G'nort Esplanade Gneesmacher

It was said that his uncle's influence led to him being assigned to a sector that was devoid of life. (Justice League International v1 #10)

In reality, the recruitment of G'newmann G'noggs and a number of other individuals was actually part of a plot to discredit the Green Lantern Corps by the Qwardians. For this task, they used the clown-like natives of Poglachi who they had masquerade as the Guardians of the Universe who gave out Power Rings in order to recruit people they considered idiots. This was done so without the real Green Lanterns being aware of this development. (Green Lantern v3 #12)

Early in his career, G'nort becomes inadvertently mixed up with the League's battle against the Manhunters. Recognizing G'Nort's general incompetence, the Corps had given him an uninhabited sector of space to patrol. The fact that the region was uninhabited also suited the needs of the Manhunters, who set up their home planet in G'Nort's sector. G'Nort joined Hal Jordan, Superman, and other Justice League members in an assault on the home world, although G'Nort's main contribution was getting stuck in the planet's ventilation system. (Justice League International v1 #10)

The League, including G'nort, find their Antarctic headquarters overwhelmed by killer penguins. Their enemies are ultimately destroyed, but not before the facility itself gets demolished. G'Nort keeps himself and his new-found allies alive via his power-ring until help arrives. (Justice League America Annual v1 #4)

During a particularly boring day around the Justice League embassy, Kilowog was so bored he actually approached G'Nort suggesting the two aliens go out on the town. Upon learning of this, the Martian Manhunter decided was needed to chaperone the Justice League's two alien Green Lanterns during a night on the town. The alien trio was attacked by the temporarily mentally stable Black Hand while having dinner at Windows on the World in Manhattan. The Justice Leaguers were arrested for disorderly conduct. (Justice League America v1 #51)

The Guardian that appeared had never seen G'Nort, but unless Gardner could prove otherwise, G'Nort was a Green Lantern. G'Nort had never seen the Guardians before either, as his uncle G'newmann had claimed to have given him the ring from them. (Green Lantern v3 #9)

Eventually it was discovered that both G'nort and his uncle G'newman were actually given their rings by the Poglachians, who posed as the Guardians of the Universe while the real Guardians were with the Zamarons. A race of clowns, the Poglachians gave the rings to beings they thought would use them in amusing ways. They were actually pawns of the Weaponers of Qward, who hoped to discredit the Green Lantern Corps by having the name associated with idiots. G'nort works with Guy Gardner, ending up in Qward itself, though G'nort loses his Qwardian-powered ring. Their confrontations against a Qwardian Sinestro cult goes badly. Faced with the threat of his beloved uncle being killed, G'nort gives up the location of Hal Jordan. Soon after, powerless but free from a Qwardian cell, G'nort smells the soldier who took his ring and tracks him down. The soldier swiftly overpowers G'nort and makes the mistake of bragging how he would kill and torture Guy. Enraged, G'nort defeats the soldier, gains his ring and saves Guy by destroying the source of his very own power. The two make it back to normal space as explosions devastate the local area. Afterwards, Guy Gardner reluctantly tells the real Guardians that G'nort was the true hero on Qward, which earned G'nort status as a genuine Green Lantern. Around this time G'Nort is kicked out of the League and meets up with a struggling street musician whom he takes to calling 'Sax Girl'. He saves her from a life of homelessness and they have multiple adventures together. They part on friendly terms, with a kiss. He has other adventures on his own, such as battling several supervillians who pretend to terrorize a small town for a cut of tourism dollars.

G'nort and the Green Lantern Corps were ;ater called to Oa to defend the Guardians against Entropy. Entropy made the Green Lanterns question the Guardians and each other, but they persevered and defeated him. The Guardians then gave G'nort and the Corps their new mission; each Corps member must go and recruit twelve new Corpsmen. The Guardians also explained G'nort's importance in the Corps, he not only brought humor to the group but a sense of the absurd. Absurdity was important to cope with the unpredictability of a rapidly changing universe. (Green Lantern v3 #35)

Guy used the opportunity to trick G'Nort into making a spaceship for him. With the ability to travel the stars Guy Gardner set in motion a plan to possess the yellow power ring of Sinestro. (Guy Gardner Reborn v1 #1)

The Darkstars tried to prevent G'nort and the Green Lantern Corps from interfering with the Triarch, but the Corps' experience working as a team helped them defeat the Darkstars. Recently, Green Lanterns Kyle Rayner and Jade discovered a world inside the power battery presumably created by Hal Jordan. Jordan had recreated Oa and the entire Green Lantern Corps as energy images complete with their memories. An energy duplicate of G'Nort was dissolved by Doctor Light in his attempt to take control of the world inside the battery and strand Rayner and Jade. Dr. Light failed, thanks to the sacrifice of the 'Green Lantern Corps', allowing Rayner and Jade to escape and leaving Doctor Light imprisoned once more inside the battery. (Green Lantern 3-D v1 #1)
