Biography

Vladimer Kravinoff on the far right in Web of Spider-Man v1 #120.

Vladimir Kravinoff was the Russian born son of Kraven the Hunter. (Spider-Man v1 #47) He was sent by his father back to Russia in order to manage the family estates. (Spider-Man v1 #46)

On his 18th birthday, it was noted that his father had gifted Vladimir his favourite hunting knife. (Spider-Man v1 #50)

After Kraven's death, his fathers journal came into Vladimir's hands where he studied and absorbed its contents. This included Kraven's final thoughts where he became obsessed with crushing the Spider. (Spider-Man v1 #50)

He was residing at the Kravinoff ancestral estate in Russia with Gregor by his side along with the family's wealth and resources. The home was approached by Jason Macendale who had with him the journal of Kraven the Hunter which Vladimir desired to obtain once more. He was prepared to kill Macendale but the mercenary was prepared for the fight and had as insurance hidden half of the journal. In an attempt to get the journal, Vladimir offered cash, gold and jewels to the mercenary but Macendale refused as he instead wanted the power granting elixir of Kraven. This led to Vladimir getting angry with him ready to attack Macendale until he was stopped by Gregor. In private, Gregor suggested that they allow Jason access to the elixir in order to test its effects on him. Thus, conflict was averted and preparations were made for a distilled sample of the elixir with Gregor intending to eliminate Jason if he survived the process as he believed the elixir was Vladimir's birth right. (Spider-Man v1 #47) By this point, Vladimir had decided to leave his home in Russia for America against the advice of Gregor. He asked Gregor to make the arrangements as Vladimir had hoped to lay claim to his father's legacy as the son of the hunter. (Spider-Man v1 #48) This saw him having scientists distil the serum detailed in his father's journal and subjecting himself to its effects. This saw him become stronger and more vital than ever before where he intended to fully claim his father's legacy by travelling to the United States. (Spider-Man v1 #49)

Moving into his father's mansion in America, he trained himself using his newfound strengths as he intended to cut away the stain on his family name caused by 'the Spider'. Intending to get his revenge that night, he first visited the grave of his father whilst giving instructions to Gregor to be notified the moment Spider-Man had been sighted. Once done, he took a helicopter as they surveyed the city and though he respected his old mentor Gregor he believed that the hunt was to be his alone. Thus, Vladimir went alone to run Spider-Man to the ground as he believed that this hunt was not simply about the kill but more a matter of honor. Using his new abilities, he tracked his quarry's scent where he used a drug coated dart to weaken him whilst also delivering a powerful electrical shock to leave him powerless. Spider-Man was at a loss at facing this new foe who resembled Kraven the Hunter with Vladimir revealing that he had claimed his father's legacy and that he had taken the name of the Grim Hunter. (Spider-Man v1 #50)
