Herbert Hall

Herbert Hall was co-owner of the popular Lion's Head Inn who lived in Iping with his wife, Jenny Hall. A fairly quiet and timid man, Herbert's primary function was to tend the inn's bar. When their only guest for the winter season, Jack Griffin, became irritable and went so far as to kick her out of his room, Jenny told Herbert to go upstairs at once and order Griffin to leave. Nervous, Herbert suggested waiting until Griffin had cooled off, but Jenny put her foot down. Upon going up to Griffin's room and attempting to pack the travelling scientist's equipment up, Herbert ended up being beaned with a heavy book and then thrown from the room and down the staircase. He survived, albeit with a grievous head injury from the fall. This event necessitated the intervention of the law on behalf of Constable Jaffers.
