The Instituto de Biologia Maritima (Institute of Marine Biology) was a South American research facility run by Dr. Mark Williams, employing such scientists as Dr. David Reed, Dr. Edwin Thompson and Dr. Matos. They funded the first expedition into the Black Lagoon.
