Biography

Origin

Andrea Thomas was a female human who was born in the modern age. (Isis v1 #1)

Several years ago, she was part of an expedition examining bygone civilisations of ancient Egypt. During this time, she encountered an amulet and a scroll where she was compelled to wear the latter. It gave her the power to read the scroll which told her to speak out the words 'Mighty Isis' allowing her to become the heroine Isis. (Isis v1 #1)

She was with Cindy Lee, Joshua Barnes and Rick Mason when a pyramid was being transported from Egypt to the city. This act freed the villainous ancient Egyptian spellcaster called Scarab who attacked all those present at the scene. Andrea managed to secretly transform into Isis where she battled Scarab who was forced to flee their fight. (Isis v1 #1)

Post-Crisis

Following Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Adrianna Tomaz

Intergang was then responsible for killing her family after which they kidnapped her and her younger brother. Adrianna's brother was sold into slavery whilst looking to sell her as well. (52 v1 #12)

She came to convince Black Adam to use his powers to do good for the people. This saw meaningful change done to Kahndaq such as diverting water to help hundreds of people and removing mines from the highways. Afterwards, Black Adam met with her and took her through a hidden path that led to the Rock of Eternity. Once there, they met with Captain Marvel who had taken over the Wizard's former position and was afflicted by the whisperings of the Seven Deadly Enemies of Man. Black Adam then asked Billy Batson to empower the amulet that once imprisoned him to be used to confer powers to Adrianna Tomaz and make her a new champion that would join the Marvel Family. (52 v1 #12)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Andrea Tomas was shown to had been a science teacher at high school where she was knowledgeable about ancient Egypt. (Isis v1 #1)

Powers and abilities

The powers of Isis stemmed from an amulet that would gave the bearer the power of a goddess and over the forces of nature, animals along with powers over the mystical regions of the mind. To have these powers, the user had to call out the words 'Mighty Isis' whereupon they gained the powers of the goddess. (Isis v1 #1) As such, her powers stemmed from the amulet that contained the power of another one of the Wizard Shazam's champions from Ancient Egypt. (52 v1 #12)

She was able to reverse a spell through a rhyming incantation. (Isis v1 #1)

  • Isis was created by Lou Scheimer, Norm Prescott, Richard Rosenbloom and Marc Richards where she made her first appearance in The Secrets of Isis: The Lights of Mystery Mountain (September 6, 1975).

Television

  • In The Secrets of Isis, Isis first appeared in the live-action television series where she was portrayed by actress Joanna Cameron.
  • In Smallville, Isis was referenced in he setting of the live-action television series in the episode "Isis". A company known as the Isis Foundation was formed by Lana Lang where it was set to help victims of the meteor crashes.
  • In Legends of Tomorrow, a character by the name of Zari Tomas appeared in the live-action television series set in the Arrowverse starting in the episode "Zari" where she was portrayed by actress Tala Ashe. She was shown as being native to the year 2042 with her being a Muslim and having a brother living in an era where A.R.G.U.S. had the country under a police state. Religion was forbidden by this time and all Metahumans were arrested as mandated by law with Zari along with her comrades being on the run. Her brother had one of the mystical Totems which he used to defend his colleagues until he was killed with the artefact being confiscated. Zari herself remained on the run with her being wanted for a number of crimes. Kuasa was brought to this era where she was tasked with killing Zari and claiming the Totem with the Legends intervening. Zari tricked them into helping her claim back the Totem and the Legends saved her from Kuasa. She later joined the ranks of the Legends on-board their time-ship.

Video games

  • In DC Universe Online, Isis appeared in the setting of the MMORPG where she was voiced by actress Samantha Inoue-Harte.
  • In Injustice: Gods Among Us, Isis made a cameo appearance in the fighting video game where she appeared in Black Adam's ending.
