Jax Briggs is a male video game character who features in Mortal Kombat.

Biography

Original Timeline

Jackson Briggs was a male human born in Earthrealm where he came to serve as a major in the U.S. Special Forces and headed an elite unit.

He came to receive a distress signal from Lt. Sonya Blade where Jax came to believe she was still alive and embarked on a rescue mission.

Upon returning to Earthrealm, he came to inform his superiors of the danger posed by Outworld but he failed to convince his superiors of the potential invasion. Seeing the lack of response, Jax came to covertly prepare for the future battle against Shao Kahn's forces. In this time, he began to outfit his arms with indestructible bionic implants with Briggs preparing to win in the coming war.

Afterwards, the Special Forces efforts in ending the the Black Dragon crime syndicate were largely a success. This saw Sonya being sent to track down its last living member but she came to disappear on the mission. Major Briggs then went out in search for her where he came to battle the forces of the evil Elder God Shinnok.

Reboot Timeline

During the Armageddon, Shao Kahn ultimately won where all of creation faced destruction but during the last moments of Raiden he managed to his past experiences back to his younger self. This created a change in the timeline as the younger Raiden was guided by the scattered visions of the future where he sought to avert this dark future.

Major Jackson Briggs mission came to be to bring down the notorious Black Dragon criminal organization. With Lieutenant Sonya Blade, the pair had seized many of their weapons caches only to discover then that their trusted informant Kano was a high-ranking member of the Black Dragon. This led to Jax prioritising the capture of Kano but the Black Dragon managed to get the better of Major Briggs and even leading the Special Forces into numerous deadly ambushes. Jax and Sonya finally cornered Kano on an uncharted island but were overpowered by the island's inhabitants. They have now been forced into a sadistic ritual of bloody kombat.

Soon after Netherrealm's defeat, Jax was freed of Quan Chi's influence and returned to life. He decided not to reactivate his military status, however, due to the trauma he suffered. Though he reluctantly serves as a consultant as a favor to his best friend, General Sonya Blade.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Jax Briggs was an African-American man with having dark skin, black hair and brown eyes. One of his most notable features was his impressive muscular upper body build where he had a tendency on keeping his torso bare.

Jax’s sacrifices burdened him but as a soldier he was honorbound to protect Earthrealm.

One incarnation of him came to marry Vera Briggs who became the mother of his daughter Jacqui Briggs.

Powers and abilities

Jax was a human being born in Earthrealm where he came to join the military where he came to be a trained soldier. In time, he became a decorated member of the U.S. Special Forces and a formidable close-kombat warrior

He had indestructible bionic implants on his arms.

One incarnation of him came to be killed only to have his soul confiscated by the Netherrealm sorcerer Quan Chi who recreated the human to be a vengeful undead warrior.

Upon joining the U.S. military, he came to rise to the rank of Major where he headed a top U.S. special forces unit. At one point, he was a member of the Outworld Investigation Agency (OIA) that was established in Earthrealm.

  • Jax Briggs was created by John Tobias where he made his first appearance in Mortal Kombat II (1993).

  • In Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, Jax Briggs appeared in the setting of the 1990s animated television series where he was voiced by actor Dorian Harewood.
