Biography

Jean DeWolff

A close friend of Jean's was Yuri Watanabe who was a fellow police officer. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #664) The two were lieutenants at the NYPD where they worked under Captain George Stacy. During this time, they worked a case against the Lucky Lobo gang when Stacy received a tip from an informant. Upon meeting his contact, he was attacked and shot in the leg where it appeared that he killed his informant who had turned on him. Lieutenants DeWolff and Watanabe went to recover him where he was taken to the hospital. Afterwards, DeWolff informed Captain Stacy that a case was being made against him as his informant had ledgers involving bribes from the police force and that his death made it appear that George had killed him to hide his involvement in the crime. Thus, the department was looking to have him resign with a possible corruption case being made against him. (Gwen Stacy v1 #1)

Watanabe adopted the guise of the Wraith and used the Mysterio technology to make her face appear as Jean DeWolff in order to strike fear into the criminal underworld that she was her slain friend who came back from the dead. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #664)
