Biography

Origin

Woo Yen Jet

In 1958, President Risenhower was kidnapped by the Yellow Claw and was taken to outer Mongolia. This saw the FBI recruiting Woo due to his experience in battling the super-criminal and gave him special powers to assemble a small but powerful team for the task. The G-Men came to consist of Gorilla-Man, M-11, the Uranian and Venus. The rescue mission was a success with the team recovering the president though Yellow Claw managed to escape. The G-Men continued to operate for another six months before a decree from the higher-ups disbanded them under the claim that the world was not ready for such a team. (Agents of Atlas v1 #1)

Later on, Woo was recruited by Howard Stark for a mission where he joined a team called the Stark Seven. They were to sneak into a casino and recover a captive Rigellian Recorder from Grey aliens. Jimmy joined the group that consisted of the Bear, Nessa the Kitten, Dum Dum Dugan and Thunderbolt Ross where they were successful in recovering the Recorder from the Grey crime family. (Iron Man v5 #10)

He later came to join Nick Fury's S.H.I.E.L.D. organization where he came to aid him and Captain America to battle the similarly revived Yellow Claw. (Strange Tales v1 #163)

Afterwards, he came to join Dum Dum Dugan's Godzilla Squad whose mission was to stop the giant mutated monster Godzilla who was rampaging across North America. (Godzilla v1 #1)

Jimmy Woo and Jasper Sitwell began to work together as investigators and interrogation specialists for S.H.I.E.L.D. Their interrogation of Jack O'Lantern leading to a subsequent investigation into the Tinkerer whose ties to Lucia von Bardas were uncovered as a result. (Secret War v1 #1)

Whilst training Asian superheroes, the world came under attack from the forces of the Dark Council as part of the War of the Realms. This saw Fire Demons emerge where they sought to claim the lands of Asia as New Muspelheim. Jimmy assembled a new incarnation of the Agents of Atlas and gathered Asian superheroes to work together to combat this menace. (War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas v1 #1)

Powers and abilities

Upon becoming the new head of Atlas Foundation, Jimmy gained the services of the enigmatic Mr. Lao who was actually a Lung dragon. His duty was to serve as royal advisor where he was akin to being a grand vizier or consigliere to the Great Khan. Lao had powerful magics that he gained from a battle with a genie in addition to his natural dragonic powers such as breathing fire as well as a long lifespan. (Agents of Atlas v1 #6) He was notable for being one of the great dragons that controlled the world in secret from the shadows. These great and powerful beasts were known to engage in a proxy war against their rivals with them using mortals as part of these battles. (Atlantis Attacks v1 #4)

He came to head the Pan-Asian School for the Unusually Gifted that was headed by Jimmy Woo and was located in the heart of Mumbai. It trained superhuman beings with it recruiting the best and brightest students from all over Asia. Funding for the school was rumoured to come from a cursed treasure. (Infinity: The Hunt v1 #1)

  • Jimmy Woo was created by Al Feldstein and Joe Maneely where he made his first appearance in Yellow Claw v1 #1 (October, 1956).

  • In The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Jimmy Woo appeared in the animated television series where he was voiced by actor Nolan North. He was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who was responsible for security at the superhuman prison known as the Vault.
  • In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Jimmy Woo was referenced in the setting of the live-action television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the episode "Face My Enemy". His name was shown as being one of the contacts on Melinda May's phone.
  • In WandaVision, Jimmy Woo appeared in the setting of the live-action television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where he was once again portrayed by actor Randall Park. He was dispatched to investigate a disturbance at the town of Westview where people could not enter the settlement. Woo was joined by agent Monica Rambeau but she became lost in the effect leading to S.W.O.R.D. setting up a quarantine site around the town. A team of experts were gathered that included Darcy Lewis where they came to learn that the anomaly at Westview was created by Wanda Maximoff.

  • In Ant-Man and the Wasp, Jimmy Woo appeared in the live-action film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where he was portrayed by actor Randall Park.
