Karen Kim was an assassin sent by Lisa Wong to kill Beatrix Kiddo before she could kill Wong. Kim disguised herself as a member of the staff of the hotel where Kiddo was staying, and tried to kill her with a shotgun. However, when Beatrix revealed she was pregnant (even having Kim check the pregnancy test to be sure), she convinced Kim to let her live.
