Kronsteen was a master chess player and top SPECTRE operative. He was the mastermind behind SPECTRE's plan to simultaneously obtain the Lektor get revenge on James Bond for the death of Dr. Julius No. When the plan failed, Kronsteen was held fully responsible and terminated by Morzeny with a poison-tipped blade on a shoe on the order of Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
