Liberty Belle is a female comic superhero who features in DC Comics.

Biography

Pre-Crisis

Libby Belle Lawrence was a female human born in the early 20th century to Major James Lawrence. It was said that her mother had died years ago leading to her father raising her alone. (Boy Commandos v1 #1)

After winning the American Intercollegiate Girls Athletic Tournament, she came to be awarded with an exact replica of the original Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. (Boy Commandos v1 #1)

Libby attempted to reach back to her father's hotel only to see a bomb dropped on the building from a Nazi plane which led to Major Lawrence's death. She was there by his dead body as she came to mourn his passing. At the time, she came to evade capture but witnessed the horrors of the war as Nazi's began to round up people to be taken away as slaves. This led to Libby vowing to escape and return home in order to warn the rest of the world of Nazi Germany's actions in the hope that this would rally other nation's against them. (Boy Commandos v1 #1)

Once there, she reports all she had witnessed in Poland to the military and political leaders. Months later, after Amsterdam falls into Nazi control, Libby again is met with by Cannon who arranges for her to be smuggled into France. At the Battle of Dunkirk, she again is saved by Rick Cannon when he gets her safely into a boat headed for England. The boat is shot out of the water by a German Stuka, but Libby has already jumped overboard. She swims the breadth of the English Channel to England. Once safe, she runs to the nearest military base and reports in, confirming her survival of the attack. She is hailed by both English and American papers as the "Miracle of Dunkirk" and she also meets with Winston Churchill. After reporting all the atrocities she witnessed, she is sent back to America. Libby is received with a ticker-tape parade on New York's Fifth Avenue and is shortly thereafter given work at a daily news syndicate, and then as a radio reporter, and she even has a television program. Post-Crisis

Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

She and Johnny then came to have a daughter named Jesse Chambers who grow up on stories about the Justice Society from her father. Over time, Libby came to focus on her media business whilst Johnny looked to promote himself as a self-improvement guru. (Justice Society of America v2 #3) Their marital life was noted to had been filled with arguments as the two fought over their daughter. Jesse seemingly had no inherited either of her parents abilities with Libby wanting her to devote herself into being a proper lady. Eventually, her parents decided to divorce with this being a long and ugly affair during which time Jesse came to manifest superspeed after repeating her father's mathematical equation. (Justice Society of America v2 #7) Afterwards, Libby and Johnny tried to be more civil in front of their daughter who came to be enrolled in graduate school where she did research on the impact of superheroes on society. (Justice Society of America v2 #3)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Personality and attributes

Upon becoming a superhero, she decided to name herself Liberty Belle as she became a glamorous new champion of American freedom. In that guise, she came to sew the symbol of the Liberty Bell onto her sports shirt as she began wearing riding breeches, a blue shirt and red gloves. (Boy Commandos v1 #1)

Her father was Major James Lawrence who had been a distinguished American man where he had served as a military attaché for the United States legation. Libby's mother was said to had died years ago leading to him raising her alone where she noted that he was the best father in the world. (Boy Commandos v1 #1)

She and Johnny later had a daughter together who they named Jesse Chambers. In time, Libby and Johnny came to drift apart leading to them breaking up as a couple. (Justice Society of America v2 #3) It was said that their divorce had been an ugly event in their lives. (Justice Society of America v2 #7)

One of her most prized possessions was an exact replica of the Liberty Bell which she was awarded after winning the American Intercollegiate Girls Athletic Tournament with the item being made of the same metals. (Boy Commandos v1 #1)
